8 Things To Do On A Hong Kong Weekend Trip

Just a four-hour flight away from Singapore, Hong Kong is a tantalizing holiday destination for those who want a break without flying too far. The Pearl of the Orient is an intriguing mix of East-meets-West culture. Our usual trips to Hong Kong are always packed with trying their famous food and thronging the shops in Causeway Bay and Tsim Sha Tsui. But it’s never too late to try something new. Check out these 8 must-do items on our travel list, and book your air ticket, pronto.

1. Go Thift-Shopping

If you’ve already done the Chanel/Louis Vuitton/Dior thing and want something unique, we recommend going thrift shopping. Most people would have heard of Apliu Street, best known for electronic gadgets like radios and vintage typewriters. It’s time to up your game.

Hit up Bang Bang 70s in Central for vintage wear. Select 18 is well known as one of Hong Kong’s best vintage shops, and you can get everything from cameras to toys and jewellery here. At Good Bad Collective, you can pick up a wide range of antiques and toys.

2. Celebrate Hong Kong’s Festivals

There’s always something happening in Hong Kong. Save these dates in your calendar, as you plan your trip:

3. Go bar-hopping at award-winning bars

If all the bar-hopping you have been doing is only at Hong Long’s famous Lan Kwai Fong, you’re missing out on some amazing watering holes. Here’re the Top 3 on our list to visit:

Bar Leone, the first Asian bar to top The World’s 50 Best Bars list in 2025. It is the first independent venture by acclaimed mixologist Lorenzo Antinori, and it offers an unusual Italian experience. Their laid-back, nostalgic charm + amazing cocktails = we’ll be there.

Argo, the flagship bar of the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong, is No 11 on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars list. It’s popular with locals and tourists alike, especially during weekends, so do come early to score a good table. Argo is known for stocking some of the most innovative spirits only found here, including Monker’s Garkel, which is the world’s first AI-created gin.   

The Old Man Hong Kong, ranked 47 in Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2023, is on our list because we love their whimsical touches. It is one of the original bartender-owned bars in Hong Kong and tucked away on Aberdeen Street, where a steep stairway leads you to its blink-and-you-miss-it entrance on the left. We love that they named their cocktails after the prose and legacy of American writer, Ernest Hemingway. How quaint!

4. Catch a concert

Concert lovers, there’s a slew of upcoming global headliners heading to Hong Kong from May onwards. TREASURE, KING GNU, Post Malone, IVE, and ITZY are some of their global big names spanning K-pop, rock, and pop.

5. Visit Comic Con

May 29-31, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hall 3

This is the first time that the popular Comic Con will be held in Hong Kong, with Louis Koo as its first official ambassador. Big names to look out for include Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal); Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad); and Christopher Lloyd (aka Doc Brown from Back to the Future). 

There will be pop culture exhibitions, celebrity meets, Live panels and discussion, original comic artwork, and rare collectibles and HKCC special products that you should definitely buy. Cosplayers, do register online. Submit your photo, get your QR code and you’ll be given a Cosplay Wristband on-site for exclusive access.

6. Take a hike or hit the beach

There’re many hiking trails and beaches in Hong Kong for nature lovers. The most popular trails include Dragon’s Back and Tai Mo Shan.

For an easier hike, Garden Hills at Sham Shui Po is just 90 metres high. It’s a photographers’ favourite spot, where you can take enjoy the panoramic views of the city’s skyscrapers and bustling streets.

You can also enjoy an island experience at Ma Wan, a sleepy fishing community that is now a lifestyle destination with beaches, mountain peaks, art galleries, heritage sites and even a theme park for families.

7. Go on a Hong Kong Movie trail tour

If you grew up watching Hong Kong movies and dramas, do make time to visit the various filming spots you’ll recognise from your favourite shows. Both The Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station and the Kowloon Walled City Park have permanent exhibitions that showcase their connections to the Hong Kong film industry, so do make time to visit them out.

The Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station with its unmistakable historic Edwardian architecture was built in 1922, is Hong Kong’s oldest. You’d have spotted this gorgeous gem in many Hong Kong films, including director Johnnie To’s Election (2005); Metade Fumaca (1999); and such Hollywood titles as Rush Hour 2 (2001), starring action legend Jackie Chan.

If you’re in the mood for something more period drama-ish, you must visit the Kowloon Walled City: A Cinematic Journey Movie Set Exhibition. This is at the site of the Walled City, which was demolished in the early ‘90’s but now lives on in Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, which won the Hong Kong Film Awards’ Best Picture. There are over 50 movie sets in the movie, and the most iconic ones are now preserved on the original sites of the Walled City. After viewing the exhibition, you should also explore the beautiful Kowloon Walled City Park and the surrounding area, to really soak up the Kowloon vibes.

8. Dine at Asia's highest ranked restaurants
