5 Hipsterrific Things To Do In Miri, Sarawak
This sleepy town in Borneo, Sarawak, is really a lit holiday spot for those looking for a leisurely getaway. Here is our must-go list, tried and tested.
“There’s a direct AirAsia flight from Singapore to Miri, so why aren’t more Singaporeans coming here?” our travel companion asked as we walked out of the Miri airport and into the bustling city. Compared to its more popular Malaysian cousins, Penang, Malacca or even Kuching, Miri does seem woefully overlooked. But that’s only if you have not heard about its attractions, like the thriving Borneo Jazz Festival and the longhouses that are home to the head-hunting Iban tribe. No heads rolled during this trip, but we did, erm, lose our heads over the unexpectedly hipster things to do here that’s fresher than over-Instagrammed street art in Georgetown, Penang. Three days should suffice for this quaint getaway, so you know what to do when the next long weekend rolls around. Scroll on for our to-do list, tried and tested.
