Not all that long ago, sportswear was drab, in myriad shades of black and grey, and if you're feeling adventurous, blue. Then came prints and colour, and exercising became a bit more interesting. People even started wearing their sports clothes out (#athleisure). And now, prints and patterns on workout pants and sports leggings have become so haps, the hot yoga studio is practically a rainbow.
Enter Yumi Active, a homegrown workout wear label which is calling itself an "haute couture activewear brand" with a rather unusual range of Asian-themed prints. Suffice to say that 10 years ago, while attending our first yoga class dressed in boring black stretchy pants, we never imagined we'd one day be doing the Downward Dog in bright leggings adorned with orchid prints or cherry blossoms, or ohm-ing in pants inspired by Peranakan tiles, of all things. Besides eye-catching prints inspired by Eastern cultures, Yumi Active apparel also boasts custom-engineered antimicrobial fabrics made in-house for better hygiene, bacteria and odour management, which apparently isn't found in most activewear brands on the market.
So, ready to kickstart 2019 and hit those fitness goals and New Year's resolutions in standout sportswear with a twist? Now you just need to decide if you want orchid, jasmine, sakura or lotus. Granted, the leggings aren't cheap at $95 a pop, but would you rather wear boring black pants?
