A cheongsam-inspired swimsuit with waist cut-outs from the folks who started the cheongsam with waist cut-out phenomenon, in partnership with a local swimwear specialist? In other words, a bikini-ish swimsuit that's more modest and flattering than an actual bikini? We've waited too long for this.
Months in the making, The Missing Piece and PINKSALT limited edition swimwear capsule launches Oct 10, with 6 swimwear designs and 4 resort-wear designs. The prints are cute, meant to evoke the idea of a modern and vibrant botanical wonderland, and there's an all-black piece that reminds us of TMP's signature one-colour cheongsam dresses.
The obi belt, another TMP signature, also features prominently, perfect for hiding mum tums and food babies. TMP founder Ee-Ling Fock tells 8days.sg, "Like many women, I always approach shopping for swimwear with some trepidation. As a mum of three, I admit I do find it difficult to find swimwear that I feel confident in. I've always had a straighter body type, but since having my twins, I’ve also acquired a “mum tum” which I've learnt to disguise over the years. One day, in one of those moments in the shower, I decided that if I can't find my perfect swimsuit, I might as well make my own!"
"Each piece in this collection was lovingly conceptualised, sampled and refined over five months by The Missing Piece and PINKSALT teams, working over lockdown and across three countries. The swimwear pieces, cut from VITA PL by Carvico, a sustainable, chlorine-resistant high-tech fabric made of recycled polyester, were fitted to real women in both teams, and every detail and measurement was fretted over down to the millimetre. The final result is pieces that give the coverage and support we all need in our less-than-modelesque spots, but which also show just enough skin for a flattering, interesting and fashion-forward silhouette."
Fab, fab, fab. We love the Cut Out Halter Swimsuit with TMP's signature cut-outs, strategically placed to give the illusion of a smaller waist. The resorty kimonos are as poolside-worthy as they are Sunday Brunch-appropriate.
The swimwear and resort wear will be available online from Oct 10 on www.pinksaltswim.co and www.iwantthemissingpiece.com. Get your fastest fingers ready!
