Will Design Orchard, the newest shopping destination on Orchard Road, be another Naiise store? Dennis Tay, the founder of Naiise, says that they are separate entities, but have the same philosophy of supporting and growing local talent. Design Orchard is a 2.5-storey development at the junction of Orchard Road and Cairnhill Road which will open its doors on Jan 25, and which boasts a 9,000 sq ft retail space — operated by Naiise — showcasing 61 homegrown brands, as well as an incubation space on the second level for local lifestyle and fashion designers called The Cocoon Space, run by Textile and Fashion Federation Singapore (Taff). There's also an events area on the rooftop with an amphitheatre, which doubles up as a green hangout space.

The project, spearheaded by Enterprise Singapore, JTC and Singapore Tourism Board (STB), will be a unique slice of indie shopping among the big malls housing international brands on the Orchard Road stretch.

Before the big reveal on Jan 25, here are artist renderings of the place and a look at some of the brands that will be hawking their wares in the retail section of Design Orchard. Some may be familiar, while some are occupying a bricks-and-mortar retail space for the first time.
