“There’s Clothing That Costs As Much As A Plate Of Chicken Rice, Which Is Ridiculous,” Says Founder Of Slow Fashion Label Tove & Libra

Can you quit that nasty habit of buying $6 dresses on Taobao, then finding out that the quality sucks, the fit is terrible and the material is deplorable? Or blowing $35 on a jumpsuit on sale at a fast fashion store which looks just like one you already have, but in a different print? For Christine Chow, co-founder of Tove & Libra, a clothing label based in Hongkong that advocates slow fashion, conscious living and a more streamlined wardrobe with quality pieces, the amount of waste in fashion is one of the things that drove her to start her own label, together with co-founder Ivan Tang. Christine, who went to school in Singapore and the USA and worked in graphic design and colour trend forecasting in New York, tells 8days.sg, "Fast fashion is just too excessive right now. When I walk into a fast fashion store, my head spins. It's just too much. Just because the jumpsuit is in right now doesn’t mean I need to see 20 iterations of it in one shop. At Tove & Libra, we believe in stylish essentials, good material and good fit. We believe in streamlining your closet, sustainable fashion and slowing down, and customers have really responded to that, especially now the world is so chaotic."
