Local Designer Max Tan Brings His Shop To Your Doorstep
Fancy this outfit catwalking all the way into your living room?
Max Tan, 32, founder-designer of his label, MAX.TAN, held his first solo show at Singapore Fashion Week show last year. The designer is best known for his bold gender-bending geometric pieces, though his adaptability to the changing retail climate ought to be lauded as well. While the brand is still stocked in stores here and cities like Dubai, London and San Francisco, Max decided to shut his first retail store at Capitol Piazza six months ago after just one year (“we couldn’t reach an agreement moving forward with the landlord”). Rather than searching for the next hip enclave to set up shop, he went online. But it’s not what you think. “We started a shopping system called Come Home to Shop. You ‘shop’ the items on our site, and put it in your shopping cart. But instead of paying at checkout, you get a code so you don’t pay anything yet. Instead, you set up an appointment with us and we’ll appear at your door with the pieces for you to try on. You can then decide to buy or not. It’s a very low tech way of meeting a high tech demand,” he quips.
Online shopping with a twist: Singapore designer Max Tan wants you to try on his edgy pieces in the comfort of your own home. Come Home to Shop, available at www.max-tan.com/comehometoshop is a complimentary service, and you only pay for the pieces you purchase during the appointment.
