Japanese Fashion Store Lumine Opens At Clarke Quay Central Tomorrow

So what is Lumine?
Lumine (say loo-min-nair) is a shopping mall in Japan housing various independent trendy fashion boutiques under one roof. If you have been to Shinjuku, Tokyo, chances are you would have browsed at some of Lumine’s stores at its gigantic mall there. Too busy for a holiday? Just swing by Clarke Quay Central, where the retail giant is opening its first outlet outside of Japan. We got a sneak peek at the 10,000 sqf space, which was formerly occupied by homegrown design shop Naiise and before that, Hongkong design label G.O.D.
Lumine in Shinjuku, Tokyo
While the Lumine store in its motherland is an entire building that will take you a day to explore, the Singapore store is more manageable. It offers 20 carefully curated Japanese labels, chosen for their popularity in Japan and on-point trends. Prices range from $15 for an accessory to $850 for clothes. Five kawaii “influencer-based” brands like Emoda, Murua and Mercury Duo (think kawaii, cheerful outfits that Japanese girl pop group AKB48 might wear) will be housed under the Lumine Lab concept, which gets its own dedicated space in the shop.

This will work
Not everything sold here came on an express train from loud and proud Harajuku, okay? If you are looking for something that’s work-appropriate and not covered in crazy polka dots, head to the corner stocking the more sophisticated label Tomorrowland, which offers neutral colours in swanky surrounds that remind us of a high-end boutique.

When you’re ready to play, you can count on these Japan-made feather slippers from Nippon shoe brand Le Talon.
Oh Mickey you’re so fine
Japanese eyewear chain Zoff (think a trendier version of of the ubiquitous, also-Japanese optician Owndays) already has a standalone store at Orchard Central, but it partners Lumine to open its latest outlet here. Other than fashun frames that you can get fitted with prescription lenses in under half an hour, it also sells cutesy eyewear accessories such as this Mickey Mouse sunglasses perch. So extra, but so adorbs that we now consider it a necessity.
Go bananas
When you buy glasses from Zoff, you get a free pouch that’s unique to the shop’s city. In Singapore, the company has chosen to feature, er, Warhol-esque pop art bananas. Don’t say we bo jio, but you get a 30% discount if you spend a minimum of $300 during its opening weekend (Nov 25-26).
#OOTD time
Once you’re properly pooped out from shopping, rest your feet and take a break at the adjoining minimalist Lumine Cafe. We think this is the most Insta-worthy spot in the shop, decked out in #millennialpink and flooded with plenty of natural light for that lit selfie. It’s run by the folks who own the popular matcha dessert chain Maccha House and the now-defunct Pompompurin Cafe at Orchard Central. Other than coffee, this cafe also serves a range of fruit-based parfaits like a limited edition Melon Medley with melon smoothie, yogurt, jelly and fresh muskmelons from Shizuoka, Japan. Go during its opening weekend from tomorrow to get one-for-one parfaits in Mango and Banana flavours.
