At GYMMBOXX in Bishan at 8am today (June 20, Saturday), a queue of eager fitness fanatics were waiting for the doors of their beloved gym to re-open for the first time in months. All the outlets of the gym chain, which has six outlets islandwide, have been closed since the start of the Circuit Breaker.

8days.sg was there on Day 2 of Phase 2, where Singapore is starting to re-discover dining in, shopping, and of course, queues. If Day 1 was crowded, Day 2 looks set to be even more so, as it's the first non-workday of the new dawn. GYMMBOXX Bishan was packed with those who had missed their weights and gym equipment sorely for two months. The gym, which was open 24 hours pre-Covid-19, is now operating on reduced hours (it will open on weekdays from 6am to 10pm and on weekends on 8am to 10pm), and is allowing a capacity of 50 gym-goers in its Bishan outlet (it's fewer than 50 for some of their other outlets, depending on the size of the gym). While some in the gym were wearing masks, many were not. Guess gymming counts as vigorous exercise?

Let's pump: Gyms are re-opening, such as this Gymmboxx outlet in Bishan, subject to safe distancing and hygiene measures.

From what we can see, almost all the equipment that is usable (some are blocked off for safe distancing measures, so there are fewer machines for customers to use) were occupied. There is also a time limit of 90 minutes per session, although we think this may be difficult to enforce. There is a Google Docs shared with members that shows the number of people in each gym at any one time, so you know whether to head down or wait for the crowds to clear. When we last checked at about noon, the Bishan outlet had 48 gym-goers (the capacity is 50), while Century Square is at 40 out of 50 capacity.

Sure looks like a lot of people are looking to get their Circuit Breaker bods back into shape. Stay safe while you work out, people!

No more running away from your fitness regimen: Back to the dreadmill, people. With safe distancing, of course.
