Drea Chong & Superga Launch Their Third Collab, And This Time, They Have Slingbacks & Lavender-Coloured Sneakers
It's fresh and just different enough from the previous two collabs that fans would want/need to get something from this collection, too.
When 8days.sg caught wind of Version 3.0 of the popular Drea Chong and Superga sneaker collab, we wondered: What new spins can they come up with, after two sold-out collections? They did espadrille sneakers in muted hues in 2018, levelled up with slip-on mules in fresher colours in 2019, and now, in 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, they're back with a brand new collab, called Essentials. Their previous collections flew off the shoe racks and virtual shelves, with some sizes selling out almost instantly, and with this one, they're going bigger, with an expanded collection with two designs in four colours each.
And the offerings are familiar yet just surprising enough that you'd want to splash $139.90 on a pair, even if you already own something from the older collections. There's the Ballerina, reminiscent of the first collection in 2018, with espadrille soles and a canvas upper, but with the number of eyelets reduced from five to three, for a more minimalist look. The surprise element here is colour. Besides the more versatile hues called Fresh Laundry (a clean cream) and Weekend Bakes (a nude shade), there are two bolder, albeit still muted colours — Garden Party (a light green) and Lavender Mist (a refreshing lilac).

The other silhouette is the Slingback, a contemporary re-design of the Superga 2402 Mule, featuring an interesting back strap with an adjustable buckle and a rubber sole. The collection is called Essentials as it's meant to be an essential item in your wardrobe. We have to say that the sneaks from the previous Superga x Drea Chong collections did end up being reliable, casual chic go-tos in our wardrobe, always comfortably pairing with easy-like-Sunday-morning outfits as well as casual work ensembles.
Will this collection again sell out in a matter of days? Hmm... let's just say we're so ready to cart out the lavender slingbacks.
Superga x Drea Chong retails for $139.90 per pair and will launch on July 17 at 10am, exclusively online at superga.com.sg. They will be donating 5% of sales from this collection to Free Food for All, a community-led charity that provides free food to the less fortunate and empowers them to become contributing members of society. Sweet.
