Over 1 Million Power Banks Recalled By Anker Due To Fire Risk — What To Do If Yours Has Been Impacted

It’s no secret that some power banks can pose fire risks — sometimes in the air — so it pays to keep close attention to the power banks you buy and any product recalls, like this one.
Over 1mil units of the Anker PowerCore 10000 power bank model A1263 (main picture) have just been recalled in the United States. The A1263 model in question was specifically sold in the US between June 1, 2016 and Dec 31, 2022.
If you bought a power bank from the US in this time frame, you may want to double check your device.
The recall does not impact power banks sold in Singapore or anywhere else outside the US.
Anker said that the recall is due to a “fire safety risk due to a potential issue with the lithium-ion battery”, said the brand in a joint statement with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
The voluntary recall by the brand was initiated “out of an abundance of caution” following 19 reports of fires and explosions.
How do you identify if your product is affected?
The brand name Anker is engraved in front of the product, and printed on the bottom are the model number “A1263” and serial number “SN”. Check it against Anker’s online verification website here.
While customers in Singapore may not be entitled to a replacement piece or gift cards, if you do have an affected power bank, you should probably get a new one, stat.
Power banks to use instead:
What to do if your power bank is impacted
Do not throw the affected power bank in to the trash or general recycling bins including the blue recycling bins. We repeat, do not throw it away as this is a potential fire hazard.
Instead, look for an e-waste disposal or recycling bin or program, like ALBA’s e-bins located around the island (more details here).
Product recall in Singapore in 2024
Separately, Anker conducted a recall in Singapore for two of its products back in 2024.
These were the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10000), and Anker Power Bank 20k. The affected products’ serial numbers are: A1647 (AHJ5W51E04200048) and A1642 (AKF4Q30E17302592,AKF4PR0E04704225).
Specifically, only a batch used in products from January 3, 2024 to September 17, 2024 in these models were affected.
What to do if you have an affected power bank:
Store it in a safe location and immediately stop using the product. Again, do not throw the power bank in to the trash or recycling bin. Instead, bring the product to Anker Singapore for an exchange. More details here
