Daniel Chan, 23, undergrad and model
Daniel majors in sports management at NUS, where he is also on the school track and field team. “I hit the gym on alternate days to do core training, and run and do jump training on the other days,” he shares. (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1370, Jan 16, 2017.)

Augustine Jadyn Ng, 25, sales executive
After joining the Manhunt 2016 contest, the 1.78m-tall, 69kg Jadyn says he’s been actively training for a ripped bod. “I go to the gym twice a week, and keep it short and intense. Being on Manhunt is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I might as well go for it!” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1344, July 18, 2016.)

Sebastian Foo, 25, model
To get his chiselled bod, Sebastian hits the gym for intense workouts five times a week. “I hate doing cardio, so I usually go running with my dog Bronzey outdoors. He’s a Pinscher breed, and sometimes when I feel lazy I stand on a longboard and let him pull me,” says Sebastian. (Photo: Wilsurn Lim. Carl Ganley, 34, acrobat
Carl has been doing gymnastics since he was 11. He says, “I was scouted by a coach to represent Team Great Britain in world gymnastic championships, and won three bronze medals and one silver medal.” To keep himself nimble, Carl does plenty of core training. He reckons that his gymnastic skills are useful in his daily life too. “You learn to pick up your shopping bags the right way,” he jokes. (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1367, Dec 26, 2016.)

Bennington Soon, 23, NSF
Due to a wrist injury, Bennington can only do “basic bodyweight training” these days. He also goes for solo night runs along Siloso Beach. “I just want to avoid the daytime crowd,” he says. “Initially it was quite scary ’cos I’ve heard of WWII ghost stories from that beach. But luckily I didn’t see anything!” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1354, September 27, 2016.)

Andee Chua, 26, model and artiste
Prior to modelling, Andee was on his school dragonboat team and weighed 90kg. “My modelling agency said I was too heavy, so I dropped 20kg in a month by doing lots of weight-lifting, high-intensity training and eating clean,” he shares. Horrific stretch marks caused by sudden weight loss? Not this dude. Andee laughs, “My friends said I’m like a balloon!” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1368, Jan 02, 2017.)

Luke Lee, 24, actor
When he was studying in the UK, Luke used to wake up at 5am to run. “And after that, I’d hit the gym when it opens at 6am,” he adds breezily. The 1.68m-tall, 63kg Luke says he got his unusual energy from army. “I was an infantry officer and got into the habit of waking very early during my army days. I now wake up at 4am every day just to get an early start on sorting my things out, and I don’t even need an alarm clock.” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1369, Jan 09, 2017.)

Robert Etre, 31, equities finance specialist
While the rest of the CBD are stuffing their faces during lunch, Robert, a New York native, is in the gym doing bodyweight exercises. “I usually work out five to six times a week, and go for a 30-min class at lunchtime. It’s quick, and it makes me feel really good after that. I’m more energised to go back to work. My job is very fast-paced since we cover all the markets in Asia-Pacific, so I’ve to relax.” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1348, Aug 15, 2016.)

Nicholas Chong, 27, lifestyle coach
Nicholas hits the gym six times a week doing “weights training, cardio and explosive exercises like sprinting”. He reckons that office folk don’t have to be gym rats to get fit. “If you really want to be more active, just print your documents page by page so you’ve to make several trips to the printer to get your printouts,” he quips. (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1361, Nov 14, 2016.)

Fang Jianyong, 27, pro runner
Jianyong is a pro athlete specialising in long-distance running who took part in his first SEA Games held in Singapore two years ago. He reckons one of the biggest misconceptions about running is that you get better the more you train. He explains, “You only improve when you give your body enough time to recover. I used to sleep more than 12 hours a day!” (This is an excerpt from an article that first appeared in Issue 1361, Nov 14, 2016.)
