After An $80K Reno, This Resale Flat Has An Arcade Games Room, The Perfect Hideaway & Entertainment Area For The Homeowners Who Love Gaming
No prizes for guessing what the homeowners of this four-room resale flat in Strathmore Avenue like to do in their free time.
As avid gamers, the couple, who work in IT and HR and are both in their late 20s, knew from the outset that one of the rooms in their 914 sq ft unit had to be transformed into a dedicated gaming room.
Besides that, they had only one other request they had for their home renovation: To make it over into an easy-to-maintain home that’s bright and airy with some eclectic elements. Vincent Tan of The Local INN.terior was tasked with the job of transforming the 17-year-old flat into a modern contemporary home with a renovation budget of $80,000.
Vincent’s vision for the entertainment room was a fun and bold sanctuary, replete with a retro off-air TV feature wall and a complementary vibrant wall colour. Together with the homeowners’ collection of arcade game machines, the room is now the perfect cocoon for unwinding after a day’s work, as well as an entertainment area when they have guests over.
Naturally, this was the part of the home that required the most work. “The off-air TV feature wall was put together with a careful selection of subway tiles that that we dry-laid, cut and eventually installed. Even though the process was tedious, the result is definitely worth it,” Vincent tells 8Days.
In the kitchen, a sleek black island takes centrestage. It not only provides more countertop space, it’s also the main dining area of the home, maximising the limited space in the kitchen. The sizeable island has also become the heart of the home, seamlessly combining the open-concept kitchen with the light, bright living room.
