Niki Caro confirmed there won't be any songs in Disney's live-action feature film 'Mulan'.

The 49-year-old director is in charge of the upcoming adventure film, which is based on a young Chinese maiden who disguises herself as a warrior in order to save her father, and admitted her family are "horrified" that the iconic songs that featured in the 1998 animation, such as 'I'll Make a Man Out of You' and 'Reflection', won't be a part of the new take on the tale.

Speaking to Moviefone, Niki confirmed: "Yes, from what I understand, no songs right now, much to the horror of my children."

Sean Bailey, the president of Motion Picture Production at Walt Disney Studios, recently said Niki would be taking a "very muscular" approach to the tale, and the director confirmed his comments about her plans for the "girly martial arts epic".

She said: "Well I'm not going to contradict Sean. His sensibility and mine for the material is right in sync. It's a big, girly martial arts epic. It will be extremely muscular and thrilling and entertaining and moving."

Disney previously revealed it would be casting Chinese stars for the role of Mulan and all primary characters.

They said: "The studio is focusing its casting search in mainland China for the main roles, including the legendary woman warrior herself."

But Niki kept her lips sealed over whether reports that the deleted scene where the Huns sneak in via a Chinese dragon is going to be in this movie,

She added: "I could not possibly comment upon that."

The screenplay is written by Lauren Hynek, Rick Jaffa, Elizabeth Martin, Amanda Silver and produced by Chris Bender, William Kong, Jason Reed, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner.
