Zhu Houren Has Trouble Walking Around After Undergoing Leg Surgery, Son Joel Choo Steps In To Be His Personal Assistant

During a recent press conference for upcoming Mediacorp drama Your World In Mine, veteran actor Zhu Houren, 67, spoke to 8world about how he has been counting on his son, Joel Choo, 28, to help him around.

Houren, who plays Desmond Ng and Ben Yeo’s dad, revealed that he had surgery on his leg after shooting the drama.

Houren initially thought that he would be able to walk normally in no time post-op but only realised that there were further issues to be fixed during the surgery.

He said he was unable to straighten his knee after walking due to arthritis and was advised by the doctor to undergo further surgery.

During the month after his operation, Houren said his leg swelled up to twice its size and he could only put 10kg of pressure on it, even when he was using a walker.

Though he is doing better, he now counts on his son, Joel, to chauffeur and help him around.

“Actually I’m very busy, but no choice, we have to plan our schedules well,” joked Joel.

He went on to give us a glimpse into the planning involved. On July 14th, Joel had to send Houren for a medical check-up in the afternoon, followed by a shoot for Mediacorp info-ed programme Body SOS, which happened to be sandwiched between two events Joel had to attend.   

“I know that my dad’s leg has had issues, but I believe that after doing this surgery, his mobility will improve and be better in the long term,” said the super sweet son.

Or should we say personal assistant?
