Video Suggests Huang Yiliang’s Acting Comeback, But It Appears To Be Zhu Houren

A behind-the-scenes video featuring an actor dashing across the road through pouring “rain” and narrowly missing a turning car has caught netizens’ attention.

The clip, posted on sgmustwatchla’s Instagram page, appeared to suggest the actor was former Mediacorp artiste Huang Yiliang returning to acting following his recent hawker venture. It was credited as a repost of a TikTok video by user @ahsan2223222, although the original post could not be located on the platform.

During the video, the camera zooms in on the actor’s face, with many netizens pointing out that he appears to be veteran artiste Zhu Houren, not Yiliang.

Comments included: “Please lor is Zhu Houren”, “Wrong actor leh” and “Anyhow only LOL”.

Some netizens were also critical of the post, with comments such as “Always with half-cooked story” and “Dangerous gimmick”.

The post comes amid ongoing interest on Yiliang, 64, who has been in the spotlight in recent weeks after opening a hawker stall at Circuit Road specialising in crab bee hoon. He's also a fishmonger.

Yiliang, a familiar face on local television for more than a decade before stepping away from acting in 2008, previously told 8days.sg he has little interest in returning despite receiving offers.

He also made headlines in recent years for his legal troubles, including an assault case in 2021 and a road traffic offence in 2024.

The recent attention has also been reflected in online buzz around Yiliang and his stall.

Sgmustwatchla, which primarily posts food content, had also previously featured the stall, first noting it was closed during a visit despite listed opening hours, before later sharing a video of Yiliang operating and drawing a crowd.

Given the timing, the post appears to be a lighthearted nod to the recent Huang Yiliang buzz, even as some netizens were quick to call out the mismatch.
