YES 933’s DJs Looked Really Sad When They Did Not Win Best Radio Programme… And It’s Hilarious

Well, there’s always the next year right?

It’s officially Star Awards season, with things kicking off on a high note at the Star Awards 2023 Gala Dinner, where seven programme awards, including Best Drama Serial and Best Theme Song, were presented.

Click here for a rundown of what you might have missed at the glitzy dinner.

For the third year in a row, LOVE 972’s ever-popular The Breakfast Quartet, hosted by  Dennis ChewMark Lee, Marcus Chin and Chen Biyu, went home with the Best Radio Programme award.

Unfortunately, Biyu wasn't able to make it to the dinner because she was "in labour", joked Mark.

Unfortunately, that means that the other nominees, CAPITAL 958’s Small City, Big Matters, hosted by Qi Qi and Lu Linxuan, LOVE 972’s Mr Zhou’s Ghost Stories, hosted by Dennis Chew and Lina Tan, as well as YES 933’s The Daka Show, hosted by Chen Ning, Gao Mei Gui and Jeff Goh, and The Shuang and Kunz Show, hosted by Hazelle Teo and Zhong Kunhua, went home empty-handed.

And in the case of a couple of YES 933 DJs… with swollen eyes and a pocketful of tissues too.

A very 'realistic' before and after shot of Hazelle and Kunhua.

Following the award announcement, YES 933’s social media team decided to take a cheeky jab at their loss, posting these hilarious snaps of their DJs teary-eyed at the gala dinner, thanks to a very nifty filter.

“We're alright! Thank you for your support, we love you!” the team wrote in their caption, with fans flooding the comments with words of encouragement and support.

Teary-eyed emojis everywhere.

Over on his IG Story, Kunhua quickly took the opportunity to poke fun at his fellow DJ Jeff, sharing a couple of stories with the latter dabbing his face with a tissue. And of course, the same teary-eyed filter was used too.

Even more tears?

“My tissue paper’s about to be used up,” Kunhua wrote, while jokingly asking Jeff to show his ‘crying face’ to the camera.

Mei Gui and Chen Ning, who were beside the duo, also chimed in, with Mei Gui laughing that she’ll help Jeff finish his food, while Chen Ning added that she did her best.

The Daka Show has been nominated for the Best Radio Programme for the past three years, with the hosts holding a fan meet event earlier this year to drum up support.

Though the fan meet attracted over 800 listeners, it seems like they were still unable to dethrone reigning champions The Breakfast Quartet.

But hey, there’s always next year, right?
