Who Teased S'pore For Its Strong Economy But Weak Cheers? Highlights From YES 933 Hits Fest 2025

YES 933's Hits Fest 2025 brought the house down last night (Sep 28) with a sold-out show at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Fans were treated to a star-studded lineup of local and regional artistes: from Boon Hui Lu, Firdhaus, Sherman Zhuo, and Dior to Taiwanese acts W0LF(S), Bii and Energy.

Bringing their own energy were YES 933’s jocks Jeff Goh, Gao Meigui, Chen Ning, Hazelle Teo, Zhong Kunhua, and Chen Qijia, who hyped up the crowd and presented awards across seven categories, including Artiste of The Year, Newcomer of The Year, and Hit of The Year.

Inside the arena, the atmosphere was electric. Fans armed with neon signs and flashing light sticks (specially given out just for the event) screamed, sang, and cheered as their idols tore up the stage.

And yes, 8days.sg was right there in the thick of it. Read on to see which moments we thought were the most iconic of the night.

1. DJ Gao Mei Gui took us straight back to Emerald Hill

‘Luo Hua Ru Yu’, the theme song to Mediacorp’s 2025 hit drama Emerald Hill, nabbed the SPOP Best Local Composition and Lyrics award.

Instead of Kit Chan’s iconic version, the audience was treated to a brand-new spin courtesy of, as host Jeff Goh cheekily introduced her, “the best singer amongst local DJs” — Gao Mei Gui.

The moment she launched into the first few notes, the entire stadium swayed along, and honestly? We could practically see Emerald Hill’s opening credits rolling in our heads.

And just when you thought it couldn’t get more meta, guess who we spotted chilling in the crowd? Yes, Emerald Hill’s very own Zhang Anna (Chantalle Ng), Bai Ah Li (Tyler Ten), and Simon Chen (Elvin Ng). Talk about a full-circle moment.

2. Malaysian singer-songwriter Diorlying teased Singapore about our strong dollar (and weak cheers)

Diorlying walked away with the YES 933 Hitmakers award — and totally owned the stage with a five-song set, including fan favourite ‘You Tian Hui Zai Xiang Jian’ (有天会再相见).

The 26-year-old ball of energy kept the vibes high, chatting and bantering with fans between songs. At one point, she asked the crowd to turn up the volume with their cheers.

When the response came back a little too soft for her liking, Dior didn’t miss a beat: “That’s all you have? Singapore’s economy keeps rising but the volume is not going up!”

Naturally, the audience roared back — proof that money talks.

3. Firdhaus got real about… his favourite numbers?

Newcomer of The Year Firdhaus, and also the ex-boyfriend of Dior, took the stage with hosts Hazelle and Kunhua to talk about his latest album, 619. Naturally, the first question was: Why those numbers?

With a grin, the 25-year-old revealed, “Since I was young, I’ve always liked the numbers six and nine.”

Cue laughter when he admitted his first idea was to call the album 69 — but his boss vetoed it. “So I had no choice but to add a ‘1’,” he joked, to more giggles from the crowd.

FYI: Get your mind out of the gutter, Firdhaus explained that six and nine remind him of the yin-yang symbol, representing balance.

4. Bii does push-Ups before hitting the stage?!

Named one of 10 Artiste(s) of The Year, 36-year-old South Korean-Taiwanese singer Bii gave us a goosebump-worthy performance of his ballad 'Special One', blending both the Mandarin and Korean versions. For those three minutes, it honestly felt like we were living inside a K-drama montage.

But let’s be real: aside from his voice, we had to talk about how incredible he looks at 36. One fellow journo even whispered, “I saw him 10 years ago, and he looks younger now!” (Honestly, same.)

What’s his secret? Turns out it’s not just skincare or good lighting. Jeff spilled: “Before coming on stage, we saw Bii backstage doing push-ups. Do you always do 20 push-ups before performing?”

Bii laughed and corrected him: “I usually do 50.” Then, with a chuckle, he added, “I didn’t have enough time just now.”

5. Energy might be out of breath… but they still slayed

The Taiwanese boyband Energy proved that age is just a number — and stamina optional — when they hit the stage as one of the most anticipated acts of the night.

Fresh off their official comeback last year after a 15-year break, the quintet — Chang Shuwei, Kunda Hsieh, Edy Hsiao, Milk Yeh, and Toro Kuo — not only snagged Artiste of the Year but also Hit of the Year for their bop ‘Friday Night’.

Now all in their forties, the guys came out swinging (and dancing) to 'Here I Am', looking sharp in matching black-and-white fits. The crowd went wild. So did Energy’s sense of humour.

At one point, Toro teased 46-year-old Milk for sounding “still out of breath,” quipping: “If you’re too breathless, we can help you speak.” Milk shot back: “Okay, okay, I’ll rest first.”

When Milk tried again minutes later, only to sound just as winded, the group couldn’t stop laughing.

But when it came time to wrap the night with their comeback anthem 'Friday Night' —  yes, complete with their viral 'E16 squat' dance — the boys, sorry, men proved they could still dance circles around the crowd. Fatigue, who?
