Woman In S’pore Repurposes Fallen Branches Into CNY Decor To Save Money

So creative.
Woman In S’pore Repurposes Fallen Branches Into CNY Decor To Save Money

If you’re thinking of putting up some last-minute decorations for Chinese New Year, but don’t feel like splurging, perhaps you could take a leaf (or in this case, a branch) out of this Xiaohongshu user's book.

Her post "Celebrating CNY in Singapore as a poor person, I didn't want to spend money" read : “I initially thought of skipping the new year decorations for this year, but I was really drawn to the pretty fallen branches that were laying [on the ground] for a few days. Yesterday, I didn’t bother about others judging me, and I lugged them for about 300-400m, crossed the roads, and eventually brought them home.”

She also said the fallen branches were so big, she had to “split them apart in order to fit them in the elevator”.

She ended up adorning the branches with DIY red packet ornaments. She also decorated the inside of her house with the extra branches, hanging mini lanterns and mandarin orange trinkets from the twigs.

The decorations were not only environmentally and budget friendly, we have to say she did a great job at upcycling waste into something beautiful. And it looks like many netizens agree.

The woman was praised for her creativity, with one netizen commenting: “I think the branches will be very happy. They were left in the rain for the whole night, then someone brought them home and made them look nice. [You] gave them a second life.”

There were also a couple of people who wondered if it was legal for the woman to bring the branches home. One netizen said she would “receive a warning” should someone lodge a complaint with NParks.

Well, she did not hack the branches off herself and merely picked them from the ground. Would anyone really be so petty to report her to the authorities, especially during the festive season?

She turned them from this...
To this.
