Retired Mediacorp Actor Tang Hu Dies At 83

Local veteran actor Tang Hu has died at the age of 83.
According to reports, he was admitted to the hospital last Thursday (Nov 9) due to a toe inflammation and fever. He passed away earlier today (Nov 15) in the hospital.
Tang Hu suffered from diabetes, and had undergone a high-risk below-the-knee amputation surgery back in 2021.
Following the surgery, he received physiotherapy treatment and was fitted with a prosthetic leg.
Mediacorp actress Chen Xiuhuan, 58, has taken to Instagram to post a tribute to Tang Hu, who played her dad in the 1993 drama The Witty Advisor.
Posting a picture with the late actor, she wrote: “In The Witty Advisor, I addressed him as 'die die' (or '爹爹' in Mandarin, which means ‘dad’). From then on, I’ve always called him “die die” whenever I saw him. I was shocked when I heard the news of his passing today. He was in good spirits when I last saw him during a Mid-Autumn Festival gathering in September. I never thought this would be the last picture we have together. I want to tell [him], rest in peace die die!”
When we last spoke to Xiuhuan about the Mid-Autumn Festival gathering, she shared about how heartwarming it was to be able to catch up with Tang Hu, and to see him in good health.
Dennis Chew also posted a picture with Tang Hu.
"Have a good journey, Uncle Tang Hu," he wrote.
The retired actor was a familiar face in Mediacorp dramas in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and was one of local showbiz’s most notable supporting actors.
Some of his popular works include Son of Pulau Tekong (1985), Men of Valour (1986), and Painted Faces (1987). His last on-screen appearance was in the 2008 show, Folks Jump Over The Wall.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Tang Hu's wake will be held at Block 129, Marsiling Rise. His funeral will be on Nov 19 (Sun).
