Tanya Chua Didn’t Prepare A Speech For The Golden Melody Awards… And She Ended Up The Night's Big Winner
Secret cheat code for upcoming award ceremonies?

What a night July 2 was for Tanya Chua, 47.
The Singaporean singer was already the hot favourite going into Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards with a whopping eight nominations.
And then, she proceeded to sweep everyone off their feet by winning not once, not twice, not thrice, but four times that night.
Apart from being crowned the Best Female Singer (Mandarin), Tanya’s album, Depart, also won Best Mandarin Album, Album of the Year and Best Vocal Album Recording.
Depart is Tanya’s 12th album, and was recorded by the singer during the COVID-19 pandemic.
To make things even sweeter, this is Tanya’s fourth Best Female Singer win, making her the singer with the most wins in the category.
The previous record-holder was Taiwanese singer A-Mei, 49, who has three wins.
A day after her big win, Tanya took to her Instagram to express her thoughts, revealing that she felt as if she was “sleepwalking" the entire night.
“It felt very unreal, and yet, there was an overwhelming sense of protection and loving energy surrounding me. I think I’ll never forget this [feeling],” she wrote.
“Before I had time to react, I was going up on stage once again, what in the world did I say. My gosh, why did I not prepare an award acceptance speech?!?? I was constantly nagging at myself, and the list of people I originally wanted to thank disappeared in a puff!” she continued.
Wait, could this be a potential cheat code for upcoming award ceremonies? Seems like Tanya might have stumbled onto something here.
Or well, it could be the fact that the singer’s mum, Madam Jennie Sri Rangkajo Sudjana, was present at the ceremony as Tanya’s plus-one too.
Tanya shared in her caption that all she wanted to do was to hug her entourage, and “ugly cry” after all the press interviews had concluded for the night.
Then, as she went on to celebrate over barbecued skewers and champagne with her team later that night, Tanya mused: “[These are the moments] that a camera can’t capture! Just like how, on the first day my mum came over to my house in the morning after quarantine, [and] we hadn’t met in very long. I cooked breakfast for her, and we ate and chatted together.”
“At that point, a ray of sunlight shone in, and when I saw her kindly face, I thought, I definitely must win loads of awards for her! So that you’ll feel proud! Later, she did some crocheting with me on the sofa, and fell asleep, with my cat in between us. I paused for another [moment], and wanted to use my eyes to capture this precious image,” she wrote.
“Winning awards, breaking records, is something worth getting excited and feeling proud about for anyone. You should probably take a few days to digest all of this, but I [will] only allow myself those few days. I’m proud that we have done everything that my team and I initially set out to do,” Tanya continued.
“Our harvest was greater than expected, and might have even shocked us, but it comes with the warm embrace of gratitude and pride. After the glory [fades], we know that we have to go back to zero, to search for the next theme that touches our hearts, in line with the earth’s rotation,” she concluded.
Universal Music Singapore is also collaborating with Brotherbird Bakehouse to celebrate Tanya Chua's latest album [D E P A R T] at the Golden Melody Awards 2022 with a Tanya-inspired danish.
