Taiwanese Actor Jasper Liu Shocked By The Price Of Bottled Water In S’pore
Somebody please introduce him to 50-cent supermarket house brand bottled water.
Singapore is ranked among the world’s most expensive cities.
We constantly hear complaints about how pricey everything is, from cars to cai fan (don’t get us started).
But for Taiwanese actor Jasper Liu, it was three humble bottles of mineral water that really drove the point home.
The 39-year-old actor, who’s currently in town filming Mediacorp crime drama Crisis Man, recently took to Instagram to share what might be the most atas hydration story of the year.
Posting a pic of himself grinning at the camera while clutching three bottles of mineral water, Jasper wrote: “When travelling far from home, remember to pay attention to the exchange rate. I thought I shouldn’t buy too much — one bottle per person would be enough. After paying, something felt off, so I checked the exchange rate. Once I punched the numbers into the calculator — unbelievable. Three bottles cost nearly NT$1,600.
Yes, you read that right. NT$1,600 — that’s about S$64 — for three bottles of water.
For that price, the water better come with anti-ageing properties and maybe the ability to solve your life problems.
Turns out Jasper had picked up French mineral water brand Beaupré, with each 1.5 litre bottle retailing between $16 and $21 here. Imported, premium, and possibly blessed by the Alps.
The actor jokingly called himself a “盘子” (pan zi) — Taiwanese slang for being taken for a ride — and described the experience as an “achievement unlocked”.
We love a self-aware king. Even if, by his own admission, he was “laughing on the outside but freezing inside”.
He later commented under his own post, calling it “pure water from France,” and quipped that it “tastes like gold.”
His Crisis Man co-star Cynthia Koh cheekily wrote: “Drinking alcohol is cheaper than drinking water.”
She’s not wrong.
Netizens quickly rushed in with practical advice: “Our tap water is drinkable!” and “It depends where you buy it — we have 50 cent water too!”
Somebody please introduce this man to supermarket house brands.
