After "being in hermit mode" for five years, Sylvia Chan is all set to find her Mr Right again.

Earlier this week (Jan 15), the 36-year-old shared on Instagram that she'd come up with a "crazy plan the find the one".

She began her post with the bold statement “I swiped on 1,000+ men last year", referring to her activity on dating apps.

The former CEO of now-defunct YouTube channel Night Owl Cinematics (NOC) went through a messy divorce from her ex-husband, Ryan Tan, in 2021.

The pair co-founded NOC in 2013, and Sylvia became a life coach in May 2023 following the closure of their company.

In her post, Sylvia shared that, despite hearing all the "trashy online dating rumours", she still found the courage to give it a shot.

She, however, decided that she would have a "winning strategy", which is to "copy [her] business consulting framework" before embarking on the "mortifying task of 'putting [herself] out there'."

Basically, Sylvia approached dating apps by applying what she does with every business client who works with her.

First, Sylvia talked to herself like she was the client — they calculated their odds, defined parameters and compute the numbers to see if the plan is viable.

She also established what she's looking for in a partner. These include having a "natural romance energy", preferably someone above 174cm and with a sharp nose. She would like him to have an elite career and "be a provider king", and "no man-child allowed".

She then did some math and created a "dating funnel", and arrived at a "starting pool of 309,000 men" in the dating scene right now. But after taking into account the qualities she's looking for, Sylvia was left with approximately 116 potential partners.

After seeing her "funnel turn into a straw", Sylvia then thought: "So few men. Should I just give up?"

She acknowledged that there are about 120 men who checks all her boxes, which is basically about 1 in 2,500 men.

"Here's what smart girlies do when the odds aren't great, yet. We do not drop the plan. We ask ourselves what are the 'non-negotiables' vs 'nice-to-haves'. We use the magic spell called pivot," she averred.

The new mentality prompted Sylvia to pivot her criteria — for instance, changing from looking for a "elite provider king now" to someone who's "reliable and willing to provide". That allowed her to widen the pool "without lowering [her] core values".

With that, the probabilities raised significantly to "1 in 238 men", which she describes as "very achievable".

"Now, we clearly know what's out there, we've challenged our own plans, corrected our limiting beliefs, there is one more thing to do — go all out. Be crazy. Be obsessed," she chirped.

That, according to Sylvia, is the online dating origin story of how her younger brother "found [her] in the kitchen one night in June 2025 swiping fast and furious" on her phone.

And we must say, the results seem pretty satisfactory for Sylvia as of now.

"I actually dated seven lovely men within six months. How's that for odds?" she quipped.
