Style Evolution: Shaun Chen

It’s not hard to believe that the Best Actor winner was once a simple kampung boy, consider this uber-casual outfit.

Maybe it’s the fluffy hair, the innocent expression in his eyes, or the fact that this photo was taken more than 10 years ago, but Shaun is almost unrecognisable in this shot from Live Again in 2007. We’ll admit to being slightly envious of how well he has aged.

While the black suit still holds up today, Shaun’s short fringe and spiky hair are horribly outdated.

Remember what we said about how well Shaun aged? He looks like he was 30-going-on-18 in this photo.

Shaun’s oversized checkerboard T-shirt is a far cry from his current habit of wearing fitted tees.

That oversized suit is in need of some tailoring.

Apparently, Shaun’s “hipster intellectual” style phase was so short-lived, we forgot it even happened.

What’s up with the ‘Aladdin’ look? We’re definitely not used to seeing Shaun this naked.

Ah, 2011, when Shaun rocked the “dad” look before even becoming a dad.

Shaun looks like he is cosplaying as Hugh Hefner.

Shaun may have changed into something more subdued (thank goodness!) for the awards ceremony, he did not forget to display his quirky side with his blinged-out man brooch.

V-neck cardigan with no undershirt, “woke up like this hair” — today’s Shaun certainly seems a lot sharper than his 2012 counterpart.

Perhaps we’re having style amnesia, but was wearing a jacket without a shirt (at least a visible one) trending in 2012?

Effeminate top, jacket with "horns" ... Shaun donned some oddly feminine clothes for his bio photo.

Though we are not fans of guys in floral shirts, we thought Shaun looked hot in his paisley shirt and rolled up blazer. Little did we know it was the start of his paisley phase.

The print returned with a vengeance at Star Awards 2013 with Shaun turning up in a loud paisley suit for Show 1. Who knew he could carry off that much paisley?

Okay we take that back. And what's with the silk décor?

Shaun kept it classy and simple in a black tux while accepting his award for Best Actor.

Is it just us, or does Shaun look more stylish in this retro getup than he does in any of his photos from 10 years ago?

Shaun and his wife Celine Chin, who frequently dress in couple outfits, took their matchy-matchy sensibilities to the next level once their daughter Nellie was born.

Shaun posed in a business casual Cerruti suit while asking his fans to vote for him ahead of the Star Awards.

Shaun looked sharp and spiffy in a classic black tux from Dolce & Gabbana.

Shaun donned plenty of interesting costumes while filming The Lead, where he played an actor.

And here we have Shaun's "dad style": athletic wear, white trainers, and a cooler full of frozen breast milk.

We liked this from afar. But alas, upon zooming in, we caught sight the ruffles and the velvet bow tie.

Doesn't Shaun look dapper in a Mao suit? He should consider donning something similar to the Star Awards.

In a bid to look more "Oppa", Shaun got himself a perm and rocked distressed jeans to the Blessings 2 press conference. We like!

Was Shaun inspired by a feng shui or kung fu master because he sure dressed like one. Nonetheless, we'll give him a thumbs up for looking swoon-worthy in this huat red oriental getup.
