Style Evolution: Qi Yuwu

We begin Yuwu’s style journey at Star Search, where his budget for suits was apparently much lower than it is now (sorry Ah Wu, but this looks like it came from the sales bin at G2000).

How about that: Yuwu looks like our ideal schoolgirl crush, circa 2003 — chunky necklace, wispy highlights, stone-cold expression, and all.

Well, it’s safe to say that Yuwu’s style has only improved from here — with only a couple of missteps along the way.

Yuwu underwent a transformation (that unfortunate spiky hair though) for his role as a hunky diving instructor in The Champion. Unsurprisingly, the fit and fab image sat very well with fans, and Yuwu saw his popularity skyrocket.

Yuwu's hair is so pong it can rival Gene Simmons'.

Yuwu might stick to neutral shades and classic silhouettes now, but his fashion sense took an adventurous turn in 2007 when he showed up to the Painted Skin press conference dressed in rather carroty colours.

Well, consider us speechless. Yuwu’s done a complete 180, style-wise, since this sequined, satiny Star Awards look.

The Smurfs called, they want their colour scheme back.

To be fair, the mid-2000s were unforgiving on EVERYONE, but between the V-necked orange shirt, the embellished scarf, the autumnal pants, and the oddly effeminate jacket, Yuwu almost looks like he’s parodying the era.

How did we not realise that Yuwu’s favourite colour — apparently — is orange?!

We never thought we'd see 715 in an ivory coloured polka dotted suit but he looks kinda hot in it.

Houndstooth, stripes, fedora… was Yuwu’s stylist trying to sabo him?

Did someone rub a balloon on Yuwu’s head or is this a legitimate hairstyle? Thankfully, this frizzy mess was a one-time affair.

The orange V-neck returned with a vengeance at the Precious Babes press conference, where Yuwu layered it beneath a white shirt (remember when layering tops was a thing?).

Looks like Yuwu auditioned to join K-pop boyband Boyfriend but didn’t make the cut.

Yuwu is a robe and a wand away from becoming Severus Snape.

As much of an improvement as this is on his previous outfits, it looks less like something a hot young actor would wear and more like something we’d spot on our insurance agent.

Yuwu looks like he just walked straight out of a beach wedding shoot in this breezy linen suit.

Yeah, yeah, another Star Awards, another round of black, but at least this one isn’t a suit. Yuwu looks pretty good — if not a little intimidating — decked out in traditional garb!

Joanne might have nabbed all the attention for her sexy Leonard Paris gown, but Yuwu held his own in a refined olive green tuxedo jacket from Gucci.

We were about to heap praise on this look but then we saw the paisley silk scarf underneath.

It’s hard to believe that this is the same man who rocked electric blue sequins at Star Awards and orange pants at the Star Awards press conference just a few years prior.

We’re getting major Steve Jobs vibes from Yuwu’s new official photo, where he kept it simple in a turtleneck and dark wash pants.

Instead of a classic black tux, Yuwu opted for a navy three-piece suit and a black frilly shirt for the 2017 Star Awards. Looks like he still has a quirky streak in him when it comes to fashion.

Naturally, Yuwu dressed in powder blue to commemorate Qi Didi's 100 day celebration. Here's hoping for matching father-son outfits down the road!

Yuwu seems to have developed a penchant for floral/kaleidoscopic shirts — not something we would expect him to wear, but judging from his style track record, we wouldn't put it past him.

Bell-bottoms aren't exactly the easiest to rock but Yuwu nailed them with aplomb. We’re also loving his timeless biker jacket which is a wardrobe must-have for both men and women.

Yuwu, who plays a member of the secret service for the Ming emperor’s court in Mediacorp drama A Quest to Heal, looked princely dressed in traditional Chinese threads during the show's imaging session.

Looks like Yuwu's adventurous fashion style is resurfacing. We like how this floral tux is bold, sophisticated and a little dark.

We’re guessing Yuwu had a tough time deciding which outerwear to go for — the denim jacket or black blazer? The actor picked both and wore them over a black T-shirt and jeans combo, and still managed to look slim and cool.

We love how shuai Yuwu looks in this Chinese New Year get-up that is a mix of traditional and modern styles. The huatastic red and gold face mask is the icing on the cake.

Ah Wu has donned some unexpected looks to the Star Awards in the past, so we were rather surprised to see him in a black velvet tux. Well, at least he looked dapper.

Never mind that Yuwu’s hairstyle reminds us of a lion’s mane, at least the award-winning actor told a bold fashion step. His vintage-looking printed shirt from Valentino gave us major swinging sixties vibes.

Yuwu radiated surfer boy vibes in his matching checked set by Gucci.

Thanks to the psychedelic print on Yuwu’s fitted blazer, his white-on-white outfit transformed into a statement-making one. Just make sure you don’t stare too hard at his jacket or you’ll risk feeling dizzy.

Cleary Yuwu shows no signs of a dad bod. This pic of the father-of-two sporting a nice tan and super fit bod is giving us major flashbacks to The Champion.
