Woman Gets $60 Worth Of Takeaway Food Stolen At Supermarket; Chases Down Alleged Culprit To MRT Station

Singaporeans are used to snatching up groceries, but someone else’s meal? That is new.

Content creator Lin Ling posted a TikTok to share a bizarre encounter at Woodleigh FairPrice Finest.

Lin Ling was shopping at the supermarket when she realised that the S$60 red stew chicken hotpot she had tapao-ed was missing. "I just turned around for a moment, and when I turned back, it was gone," she said. 

Or so she thought. 

Lin Ling later shared in the video that a staffer from FairPrice Finest had seen a woman in red take her food.

She had accepted her bad luck and was walking away when she spotted a woman in red pushing a trolley, walking away. At that time, she was unsure if that was the same woman who had actually stolen her food.

Lin Ling decided to follow her all the way to the MRT station.“Maybe when I get close to her, I can get a whiff if there is any red stew chicken smell,” she laughed.

She said that when the woman in red noticed her, she quickly walked away and entered the MRT gantry.

Just as a train was about to arrive, Lin Ling noticed her tapao-ed food, still in the plastic bag, eventually reappeared, presumably placed on the seat at the train station by the woman in red.

“Hello! Stop there! I saw you! You know I am following you, right?” Lin Ling hollered when she saw what unfolded.

She then said the woman denied stealing her food when questioned, insisting Lin Ling had gotten the wrong person.

“I recorded everything, and she hurriedly boarded the train,” Lin Ling added.

Umm… Bizarre, much?

Lin Ling later says she didn’t follow the woman onto the train as she didn’t want her food to go missing again.

Netizens were left both entertained and baffled.

Many applauded Lin Ling for her bravery, while others suggested she should have called the police.

One netizen mused: “She left the item on the seat, so she didn’t steal it, but returned it.”

“Next time I get caught by the police after robbing a bank, I will do the same,” Lin Ling replied.
