When James Seah was first contacted about replacing his friend Shane Pow in upcoming long-form drama The Heartland Hero after the latter’s drink driving scandal, his initial reaction was to be “worried”.

“I was worried that the audience would feel uncomfortable after seeing a different actor in the role and was wondering if I should mimic Shane’s way of playing the character,” the 30-year-old revealed in the latest episode of Mediacorp bite-sized series #JustSwipeLah, which was filmed during a visit to the Heartland Hero set on his third day at work.

However, as executive producer Leong Lye Lin told 8days.sg in an earlier Zoom interview about the switching of actors, she “made it very clear” to James that she didn’t want him copying Shane, even though they were technically supposed to be the same person.

“We’re two different people and the way we would approach the script and character is different, so I feel there’s no need to copy Shane and I should just use whatever method I’m most comfortable with to portray the character,” said James.
