The nominations for this year's Star Awards boasts a longlist of 75 male and female stars vying for the Top 10 Most Popular Male and Top 10 Most Popular Female Awards.

On top of that, we have 39 ‘younger’ artistes duking it out for 3 Most Popular Rising Star Awards. Intrigued? Click here for our handy explainer.

In a nutshell, the competition is heating up this year. And what we love about the many new faces in the list this year is the enthusiasm, especially from first-time nominees.

In the Top 10 nomination list, we have 19 first-time female nominees, including DJs Chen BiyuKimberly Wang and actresses Fang Rong and Tasha Low. For the males, there are 12 first-time nominees, including DJs Kunhua and Zhai Siming, as well as actors Jeremy Chan and Nick Teo.

Over on the Rising Stars list, all of them are considered first-time nominees, since this is the inaugural presentation of the award. New faces to look forward to at the awards ceremony include actor Shawn Thia and DJ Ze Liang, as well as influencer-turned actress Khaw Xin Lin and Star Search 2019 alums Kiki Lim and Ye Jiayun.

So, how did our celebs react to their nominations, and how are they canvassing for votes?

Romeo Tan

Did you know that the Star Awards this year will fall on Romeo’s 38th birthday? It’d be kind of a bummer if the birthday boy wasn’t named one of the popular kids in his class right?

“This year, it’s slightly more special than ever as the award show falls on my birthday,” he wrote in an Instagram caption, adding: “So do keep the voting coming and that will be the best present to me.”

Ze Liang

Meanwhile, YES 933 DJ Ze Liang got his birthday present already as the nominations were released on his hatch day.

The DJ, who turned 26 yesterday, is in the running for the Most Popular Rising Star award. All the best!

Zhai Siming

The  Star Search 2019 alum and Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste nominee joked that if you vote for him, he’ll “thank you on stage”. Like sponsors at a concert?

Plus, if you aren’t sure how voting works, Siming says that you can drop him a direct message on IG, and he’ll teach you. Gotta say Zhai Siming is really taking the personal touch to a whole new level.

Xenia Tan

Actress Xenia Tan, 28, who’s not a nominee, shared this sweet anecdote on her IG Story, revealing that she’d asked her family to help vote for her fiancé, fellow actor Shawn Thia, 27, in the Most Popular Rising Star award.

But Xenia’s dad couldn’t figure out how to vote online, so he went over to Xenia’s aunt’s place to get an in-person tutorial.

“I’m sorry, I can’t decide to laugh or cry,” Xenia wrote in her IG Story, sharing that she literally teared up in public after seeing the texts from her aunt. (P/S Maybe call Zhai Siming?)

Hong Ling and Nick Teo

Here’s one thing the 28-year-old actress (who’s already got two Top 10 wins under her belt) wants you to know — her fiancé Nick Teo’s nominated for the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste Award for the first time.

So, rather than voting for her, Hong Ling would really like her fans to “please vote for him instead of me”. Is it just us, or are the women more selfless than the guys when it comes to stumping for Star Awards voting?

Benjamin Tan

The 29-year-old actor shared in an IG Story that Star Awards this year will take place a week before his mum’s death anniversary, and that he hopes to win an award to make his late mum proud.

“This is not ‘cos I want sympathy votes, but I just really want to make my mum proud. Please vote a lot, everyone,” he wrote.

Benjamin is in the running for the Most Popular Rising Stars award.
