Juggle acting and school? Looks like a breeze for Hwa Chong Institution student and Star Award winner Lincoln Ang.

The fourteen-year-old took home the Young Talent Award at Star Awards 2025 yesterday (Jul 6) for his role in Born To Shine as a hardworking student pressured to excel by his strict parents (Andie Chen and Mindee Ong).

When 8days.sg spoke to the budding star backstage, he admits he didn't think of how he’d celebrate as he wasn't expecting to win.

"But there's no school tomorrow, it's Youth Day,” he shares. “So maybe I'll go to Haidilao with my family."

Despite his lack of anticipation, Lincoln did prepare a script after all the nominees were instructed to do so the day before.

In his speech, Lincoln thanked the scriptwriters, producers, his family as well as on-screen parents.

He also averred: "Every kid is unique. Even if they don’t get number one, they’ll always be the one and only to their parents” in reference to his character in the show.

Guess who helped him come up with that?

"Actually I generated a bit from ChatGPT," giggles Lincoln, whose character in the drama also used the software to complete his homework.

"It was the show who introduced ChatGPT to me, and I also used it to write my speech. I wrote a draft then [used the tool] to refine it," he adds.

Speaking of homework, Lincoln still has a ton to complete before going back to school on Tuesday.

"Yesterday I didn't have time as there was a rehearsal, so tomorrow I have a lot of homework to do. Maybe I'll only have one to two hours to celebrate then I have to go to sleep. The next day have school lor," he says.

He shares that it hasn't been easy being a student and an actor at the same time.

The young child got into an acting academy when he was in primary two, where he was taught by Mediacorp actress Priscelia Chan.

"My parents didn't allow me to join at first so I had to keep begging them. I watched some drama about kids and just wanted to act," he reveals.

When Lincoln was filming Born To Shine, he was preparing for PSLE at the same time.

He asked the production team for a two-week break during filming to study for the exams.

"Not gonna lie, it was very hard," he confesses. "Luckily, I still managed to get AL6, so I was quite happy." The best score one can get for PSLE is AL4, by the way.

After he started secondary school, Lincoln decided to cut down on acting due to the increased workload and academic difficulty.

Does Lincoln feel that being on screen has boosted his popularity in school?

"Not really leh. My friends only knew [I was an actor] after I posted on Instagram 'cos in school I'm quite a quiet kid," he explains.

He also didn't tell any of them to watch the ceremony to support him 'cos they're "all quite busy".

That said, he thinks his friends, especially his classmates, "will be very proud of [him]".

"I'm very happy that I can bring pride to my school and class," he beams. "They told me: 'You better win, or you're dead. But they're just kidding lah," he laughs.

One might say Lincoln Ang was Born To Shine

He has grown up so much since he acted in the show
