Here Are The Nominees For Star Awards 2023, Which Will Be Held On Apr 9 At Marina Bay Sands
This year's show will see the induction of a new award as well as the removal of the Top 40 Most Popular Male and Female Artistes shortlist. Also, expect to see YouTubers and social media influencers in contention for the popularity awards.
The Star Awards this year will be held at Marina Bay Sands on April 9. The last time local showbiz's biggest night took place at MBS was in 2013.
One thing to look forward to is the induction of a new award — Most Popular Rising Stars — which will be presented to three stars who have been in showbiz for five years or less, and who have garnered the most fan votes.
This award will also count towards the 10 Most Popular awards artistes need to ascend the All-Time Favourite Artiste podium.
In the same vein, the Best Newcomer has been renamed the Best Rising Star. Eligible for this award are stars who have been in the industry for five years or less, instead of the previous three-years or less criteria.
“Mediacorp is committed to championing and celebrating the best in local content and talent. For close to 30 years, Star Awards has been the definitive platform for us to do this, and the new ‘Rising Star’ awards ensure that young, emerging talents are recognised for their achievements,” says Angeline Poh, Chief Customer & Corporate Development Officer of Mediacorp.
Another notable change to the awards show this year will be the removal of a preliminary Top 40 artistes list.
Previously, a list of the Top 40 most popular male and female artistes would be derived from an audience poll prior to the selection of the Top 20 stars who then compete for the Top 10 awards on the night of the live show.
Results of the poll will still play a part in the computation of the final results, but will not be used to decide the artistes for qualification.
By removing the preliminary shortlist, all qualifying artistes will get the opportunity to rally for votes, and fans will be able to support their favourite stars from the get-go.
As such, we can anticipate many more artistes to make the qualifying lists, which will be released at a later date.
It is also worth mentioning that the nominees will not only consist of actors and actresses, but also stars and social media influencers who appear in other Mediacorp content, including YouTube and other related platforms.
Star Awards 2023 will start at 3.30pm on meWATCH and the Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel, with exclusive live backstage footage, interviews with artistes and the live streaming of the ceremony.
The Walk of Fame will begin at 5pm, followed by the live show at 7pm, which will be streaming online and airing on Ch 8 and Ch U.
