S'pore Delivery Rider Says Bicycle Gear Stolen Thrice: "The Next Few Days I'll Have No Earnings"

A delivery rider in Singapore says items from his bicycle have now been stolen three times, and the latest incident could leave him unable to work for the next few days.

The rider took to Facebook to share his frustration after discovering that the inner parts of his thermal delivery bag had apparently been taken.

"My life took a huge turn when I lost my job. And it's the third time parts of my bicycle stuffs are stolen off,” he wrote.

According to the rider, someone previously took his phone holder, then his bottle holder disappeared.

"And now I just realised that the inner parts of my thermal bag is just gone," he wrote.

Three times? Talk about suay.

The individual items may not sound particularly expensive, but for someone relying on his bicycle and delivery equipment to make a living, these losses can be crucial.

"I don't make much in this but it's still my rice bowl. Such a heartbreak that people are fine with doing this,” he wrote.

According to the rider, he now has to replace the missing equipment before he can properly get back to work.

"The next few days I have no earnings. Shame on such people,” he wrote.

The rider did not say which platform he works for.

For GrabFood, a standard branded delivery backpack costs S$55, while its smaller halal-dedicated thermal bag costs S$10.

GrabFood riders aren't required to purchase Grab-branded gear, though they are required to use a suitable food-safe thermal bag.

Over at Foodpanda, a regular thermal bag costs S$6, while its larger cyclist and motorist delivery backpacks currently range from S$22.50 to S$29.50 through its official Rider Shop.

Generic non-platform-branded thermal delivery bags are also another option.

The rider's post drew sympathy from other Facebook users, with one netizen even offering to help pay for a replacement.

"How much to get a used thermal bag? I could chip in a few bucks," they wrote.

Another urged the rider to check for nearby CCTV footage and make a police report.

One commenter, however, floated a more sinister theory.

"Believe it or not, it could be some food delivery rider in the same area," they wrote, claiming they'd heard of riders doing this so there would be less competition for deliveries nearby.

There is, however, no evidence that another delivery rider was responsible for any of the alleged thefts, or that the latest incident was intended to stop him from working.
