Sora Ma Recalls 1-Yr-Old Son’s Harrowing Accident After Domestic Helper Left Him Alone At Home
The 42-year-old also shared that she had trusted her helper deeply and believed she would stay with the family for years.
Former Mediacorp actress Sora Ma shared a terrifying parenting ordeal that could've ended in tragedy.
In an emotional Instagram post, the 42-year-old revealed that her one-year-old son, Skye, fell down a flight of stairs after allegedly being left alone at home by a domestic helper.
"I almost lost my child and in that moment, he was completely alone," she captioned. In the post, Sora admitted she is still deeply shaken by what happened.
“I trusted her deeply. I thought my helper would stay for years,” Sora wrote, adding that even though the helper’s household skills were average, she was amazing with Skye.
Sora, whose husband passed away while she was pregnant with Skye in 2024, has since been bringing up her son as a single parent.
According to Sora, the incident took place during a trip to Kuala Lumpur, where she had brought Skye and her helper along. She had arrived three days earlier to help her son adjust to the environment.
Sora later stepped out for what was meant to be a two-hour meeting, leaving Skye in the care of the helper.
But something didn’t sit right with her. Trusting her instincts, Sora decided to head back midway, possibly to bring both her son and the helper out with her instead.
When she opened the door, she was met with a scene no parent wants to see. Skye was crying hysterically, his face flushed red and his expression filled with fear.
Sora wrote that Skye had fallen down the staircase when trying to get down from the second floor.
“I have never seen him like that before,” she wrote.
“She [the helper] was nowhere to be found. Not in the room, not upstairs, not downstairs. Even her shoes were gone,” Sora added.
A devastated Sora then said she confronted the helper. “It was never how long you were gone. It was about how you could leave without telling me and leave the child behind?” she said.
Sora ended her post with a stark reminder for parents and caregivers alike: “A child’s safety is never just 'just for a while'.”
Netizens flooded the comments, expressing shock and anger over what happened.
“A mother’s instinct is always very strong. Do not trust helpers, especially new helpers nowadays. Thankfully, Skye is safe,” read a comment.
Others asked if the helper had run away. Sora’s reply was cryptic: “Just for a while”.
It is unclear if the helper is still working for Sora, though netizens made their stance clear.
“Sorry to say, but you need to terminate her contract,” wrote one.
