987 DJ Sonia Chew Reveals Her Dad Has A Cancerous Tumour In His Lung
In a Reel celebrating her father’s birthday, the 31-year-old jock writes that he has started treatment and is “hopeful he is getting better”.
Birthdays typically bring an air of joy and celebration.
But for 987 jock Sonia Chew, 31, she took to Instagram to not only highlight her dad’s birthday, but also reveal that he recently discovered a cancerous tumour in his lung.
The video started off with a picture of Sonia with her folks and the caption “In 2023, I learned a major life lesson”.
She then said one should "always prioritise loved ones in the midst of the crazy hustle we live in" before revealing her father’s diagnosis.

Though it was not revealed when Sonia’s father was first diagnosed with cancer, The Shock Circuit host shared that she initially took it quite hard and highlighted his resilience in not backing down, adding that he has already started treatment and that she is “hopeful that he is getting better.”
As such, Sonia's dad, who is a former architect and video producer, has been spotted in public with a tube to allow him to breathe and lead a normal life. Sonia then shared that it has garnered the occasional stare when they're out.
Colleagues and friends took to the comments, with many leaving words of encouragement, including fellow 987 jock, Joakim Gomez writing, “Happy Birthday to the OG and coolest “Hong Kong” gangster, Papa Chew”, while Class 95’s Muttons, Vernon A and Justin Ang wrote, “Stay strong uncle chew!!!”
Touched by all the love sent her way, Sonia reposted the reel, thanking everyone for the comments and messages.
“I didn’t expect so many [of you] to share personal experiences and stories with me…,” she added, before promising to take some time to reply.
