Mainland Chinese Man Calls S'pore A "Rich Country" Because Our Rubbish Trucks Are Mercedes-Benz

How does one decide if a country is considered rich?

Some look at its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) while others look at its standard of living. For this Mainland Chinese man, he looks at its rubbish trucks.

Recently, Xiaohongshu user Xiao Wen Ge, who lives in Singapore, shared a video of a SembWaste Pte Ltd rubbish truck he saw in an HDB estate.

Xiao Wen Ge then made this observation: "Singapore is such a rich country. Even their rubbish truck is a Mercedes."

He wasn't the only Xiaohongshu user fascinated by the model of the truck.

"[Singapore] Is so developed," wrote one netizen while another quipped: "This is exactly what they mean by: 'Even the rubbish collector drives Mercedes-Benz every day'!!"

Some netizens, on the other hand, explained that this cannot be used to determine a nation's wealth.

"A Mercedes Benz truck is just a commercial vehicle. It has nothing to do with a country being rich," one argued.

We wonder how Xiao Wen Ge would react when he finds out that our public buses are Mercedes too.

Have you seen a Mercedes-Benz rubbish truck?
