Sharon Au “Starting From Zero Again” After Paris Home Was Burgled, Her 2nd Break-In Since She Moved To The City
She was so shaken by the crime that it took her 11 days before she could talk about it online.
On April 30, Sharon Au came home to a rude shock: her Paris apartment has been broken into.
The 46-year-old, who has been based in the city since 2018, took to Instagram to share about the break-in yesterday (Mar 11).
“My apartment was broken into 11 days ago. 30 April 2022. They took everything I love. I have nothing now,” she wrote, adding that she is “starting from zero. Again.”
While Sharon did not mention how the break-in happened, she said she was so shaken that it “took [her] 11 days to pen this note, without crying”.
Her cat Rudon, who was alone in the apartment, witnessed everything and is traumatised by the invasion too.
“Even the slightest sound startles him now,” she said.
Though she is left with "nothing" now, she takes comfort that the burglars did not take “the love of her life” and “the one thing that money cannot buy”: Rudon.
“I thank God that he is safe, unhurt, and did not run away. He waited for me to come home,” she said.
This is not the first time Sharon’s home has been broken into in Paris.
When she first moved to the city in 2018, the Airbnb she rented was broken into when she was out. Her backpack and laptop were stolen.
Then, she said she was very calm about the incident but has learnt to heighten her sense of alertness and urgency in Paris.
“When I’m home, I lock my things up as breaking in is very easy,” she said.
