Sammi Cheng On Andy Hui, Gigi Leung & Being A Gay Icon

"I respect everyone and I believe that everyone has the right to live the life he or she wants to live."

Sammi Cheng is a lot smaller than we remember. We’ve met her some years back in Hongkong and if memory serves us right, she wasn’t this petite. It seems the intensive workouts she’s been going for (which the singer shows off in sweat-drenched Instagram posts) have turned her into an even leaner, meaner machine. And not just that too. The Heavenly Queen, who was in town recently for the Singapore International Film Festival where she promoted her new film First Night Nerves, also looks healthier, fresher and much younger than her 46 years.

Here’s the thing about a star of Sammi’s stature. No matter her physical size, she’s larger-than-life. She commands a kind of presence that when she enters a room, everyone sits up and pays attention. It’s as if the Queen of England herself had walked in. The kind of star wattage that turns otherwise cynical journos into instant fanboys and girls. “Oh my god, I’m so excited to meet her!” we heard a journo squeal in anticipation.
