Few things feel worse than falling sick in a foreign country. Not only does being ill throw a wrench in your plans; having no one around to look after you can make you feel worse.

Thankfully for Romeo Tan, 37, the experience of falling sick in Australia wasn’t all bad.

The actor is currently in Canberra filming new Mediacorp drama Shero. Together with him are co-stars including Aileen Tan, Carrie Wong and Joanne Peh.

Here's Romeo with Aileen, Joanne and Carrie

On March 1, Romeo shared a picture of his ART test, which was fortunately negative, and revealed that he was feeling under the weather. He also posted an IG story of a bowl of porridge, which had been prepared by Joanne.

Speaking to 8days.sg via voice messages on March 2, Romeo shared that it was his third day being down with a cold. “As you can hear, my voice is a bit nasal now,” said the actor, who added that he has a cough, flu and sore throat.

He blames the erratic weather in Canberra for his symptoms.

“I guess it’s [because of] the temperature, as it can be very cold in the morning, like 12 degrees celsius, and then it jumps to 27-28 degrees celsius in the afternoon. My body cannot cope with it,” he explained.

"Don't call me mum, I didn't ask for a son," joked Joanne in her repost of Romeo's story

Romeo went on to tell us that a few of the crew members have also taken ill. Luckily for them, mum-of-two Joanne Peh, 39, is also there.

“Joanne is very nice because she is like a mother taking care of us. She cooked porridge for us, and after that, she kept the porridge water and gave it to me because it’s supposed to be cooling, so it will help me ‘expel heat’,” said Romeo.

As for the story he posted thanking Joanne for her “motherly love”, the actor is certain that Joanne “wouldn't mind” him addressing her as such because she had “indeed been playing a mother role”.

Joanne was sure to take care of other sick members of the cast and crew as well

If anyone is worried about how Romeo is coping with filming, fret not, because there is plenty of “TLC going on within [the group]”.

“The crew and other artistes have passed me lozenges, flu medicine, Panadol and Chinese medicine. I have a lot of medicine in my room now!”
