Looks like Richie Koh’s struck gold again.

The 29-year-old is receiving high praise from viewers after his performance in this heartbreaking scene from Mediacorp drama Cash On Delivery really resonated with them.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

The drama is set in 2020, back when the entire nation entered the Circuit Breaker period to contain the spread of Covid.

In the show, Richie plays Juncong, a loan shark runner who masquerades as a food delivery man so that he can collect from the debtors.

They could only communicate via video calls.

Towards the end of the drama, Juncong’s grandma, played by Jin Yinji, gets Covid and is hospitalised. Juncong, who’s a close contact, then has to isolate himself in a quarantine facility.

Juncong is also very close to his grandmother, who practically raised him single-handedly with no help from his parents.

A truly heartbreaking sight,

Unfortunately, his grandma’s condition takes a turn for the worse. Juncong is distraught after hearing the news and attempts to run out of the quarantine facility to see his grandma for the last time.

However, his efforts were in vain, and his grandma passes away in the isolation ward.

Richie attempting to come to terms with his grandma's death.

In accordance with the Covid protocols at that time, her body was also cremated immediately.

8days.sg spoke to Richie to find out how the actor delivered such an emotionally-charged scene.

He shared: "Jin-jie was very worried about our scenes together, so we spent a lot of time talking and building our chemistry on the first day. I was trying to build a history and implanting her as a grandma into my mind. So with the script and the memories I made with her, I just let it flow during filming."

Richie also went on to muse that he felt he could've ended the scene with "more aggression and pain", but ultimately, he did the best that he could at that time.

A short clip of Richie crying his heart out was posted on Mediacorp’s Instagram, and viewers have taken to the comments section to share their thoughts.

“A drama that you’ll laugh and cry along with, Richie, your acting was really great!” one netizen wrote.

Others shared that the scene reminded them of their own experience where they were unable to bid goodbye to their loved ones 'cos of Covid.

“Heartbreaking. I watched a couple episodes of this series and I feel his acting is really natural and good. It reminded me of (…) when we could [not] even visit our relative and send him off personally when he passed away,” another netizen wrote.

All done in isolation.

“The scene where he was kowtowing to his grandma made my heart ache after seeing it. I cried along with him. Well done, Richie,” yet another netizen wrote, adding that the actor’s a hidden gem, and that they look forward to seeing him shine even more in his future projects.

When asked if he's seen all the praise he's been getting from netizens, the Best Actor winner replied humbly: "I read a little here and there, not really a lot [of praise] lah. But most of them enjoyed the show, so overall, I'm glad."
