Rebecca Lim Pays Tribute To Her Grandfather, Who Passed Away Last Week
In her touching eulogy, Becks wrote about how her grandfather showed his love for her grandmother by deliberately losing to her in mahjong.
On March 22, Rebecca Lim took to her Instagram to share a number of pictures of her family, an uncharacteristic move from the usually-private actress.
In her caption, the 34-year-old went on to reveal in a heartfelt eulogy that her grandfather had passed away early last week.
"Ah Gong was born into a humble family in Penang, received no formal education and started working as a coolie carrying sacks of rice for income. He found success via sheer determination, hustle and street smarts, but never once forgot his humble beginnings. He would always put others first, and there was no issue too small for him to help with. He was always generous with his resources and time.” her caption reads.

She then went on to write about how her grandfather showed his love for her grandmother by deliberately losing to her in mahjong, despite his aptitude for the game.
"The mental dexterity, intuition and wiliness he displayed at the mahjong table was definitely a thorn in Ah Ma's flesh. But he was always gracious to her and his love was expressed by bending the house rules, throwing games in her favour and turning his deaf ear to her mutterings.” she writes.

Rebecca, who has an elder brother and a younger sister, then ended her eulogy with these words: "Ah Gong was very much hands on with us grandchildren. He taught us life lessons, ferried us to and from classes and made sure we were well-fed. He loved us all so much.
As he faded slowly the morning of his passing last week, one cannot think of a more dignified departure for this giant in our life. He passed away with his mental faculties fully intact, only betrayed by multiple organ failures. We were able to say our last goodbyes, and while we grieve, we marvel at Ah Gong playing his role as family anchor to his very last breath. He definitely lived life on his own terms.
We will miss his hearty bellowing laughter, hugs, kisses and prickly stubble tickling our cheeks.
Ah Gong will always be remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. We can only hope to live life with the same level of maturity, compassion, filial piety, generosity and kindness as Ah Gong had.”
