Quan Yifeng Says She Hasn't Fallen Out With BFF Addy Lee; Reveals Daughter Eleanor’s Legal Surname Is Still Yu

On her post, which was directed at Shin Min Daily News, Yifeng ranted: “You didn’t interview the person involved. I didn’t receive a single call. You could have tried to leave a message.... Don’t you have better things to write about? Your readers wonder how much I’ve paid you [because] you wrote about [me] twice in three days.”

She then turned her attentions on the netizens who have been leaving nasty remarks about her and Eleanor for years. “Netizens, who made you the judge and jury? (…) What else do you have to criticise my daughter about apart from her surname? Her father Peter doesn’t even use ‘Yu’ in his [Chinese] name any longer. He’s never said anything about [her surname], so what are you complaining about?”

An hour after her post, Yifeng went on Facebook Live to admonish those who constantly drag her ex-husband into conversations, “Peter is in quite a pitiful state now. He doesn’t have acting gigs because of COVID-19 and so he started selling property."She also gave fresh insight on her relationship with Peter.

“It’s terrible that someone who has since moved on and has a family of his own is constantly living in his ex-wife’s shadow. I’m on good terms with Peter but people keep saying that Eleanor is terrible for "acknowledging" someone else as her dad [by changing her surname to his] (…) People keep saying that Eleanor should have changed her surname to 'Quan'. I’m her mum, so don't you think I want that too?”

After her live stream, Yifeng spoke to Lianhe Wanbao, where she gave further insight on what transpired. Yifeng shared that contrary to what everyone thinks, she and Addy are still friends. They’re both busy with their own lives, and have therefore drifted apart. She emphasised that there “hasn’t been any argument or falling out” between them.

She also spoke about her friendship with David, whom she said she's been friendly with since they worked together on now-defunct TV station SPH MediaWorks.

“I’ve always maintained a good relationship with David. We started going to him because of a number of collaborations that we have with international brands (…) You can call it a betrayal if I went to David for reasons that aren’t work-related. I don’t think Addy minds because this [collaboration] is for Eleanor’s sake.”

Yifeng also clarified why Eleanor changed her surname to Lee, sharing that it has nothing to do with Addy. Years ago, she brought her daughter to a fortune teller, who suggested that Eleanor have a ‘good’ surname for her stage name. “I wanted my daughter to take on my surname 'Quan', but the fortune teller said that it would be too ‘heavy’ a burden for her to bear, and chose the surname ‘Lee’ instead. I was elated at the time because it meant she would share the same surname as Addy.”

Yifeng never clarified the misleading reports that Eleanor had taken Addy's surname because she felt that it would impact Addy negatively if she did so. Calling this entire situation a “beautiful mistake”, she added that Eleanor never changed her surname legally, which means that she is still ‘Eleanor Yu’ in the eyes of the law.

She added, “Peter wasn’t happy about Eleanor using the surname ‘Lee’ at the start. I explained to him that it was for her own good as it was something that was advised by the fortune teller. Moreover, he's since removed the ‘Yu’ from his own stage name, and so he’s come to terms with her stage name.”
