Priscelia Chan And Alan Tern Scalded By Hot Coffee At Cafe; Says It Was Her Husband’s “Blunder”

"It's not the cafe's fault, it's Alan's blunder. I don't know what happened exactly too, he just gently knocked it, and it could be that the cup was not very balanced, so it just toppled,” recalled Priscelia.

“I posted the Instagram Story 'cos we didn't realise the damage that it could do. So this morning, we were talking about it, and I asked Alan, 'do you think we should just like maybe post [about this] and let people know the pain and damage that such spills could cause,” Priscelia said, adding that they both did not expect the coffee to be so hot.

"We really never knew that the burning sensation from hot liquid [on our thighs] can be that painful and lasting,” Priscelia shared.

“[Alan’s burn] was really painful too 'cos he got a hole in his jeans. So the spill went straight to his skin, but for me, there was still a layer of denim,” she added.

"When it just suddenly spilled over, I really freaked out and it was so hot, so I quickly rushed to the toilet and took off my jeans and ran running water over the area for a while,” she went on to say, adding that the other customers at the cafe were very accommodating, and offered tissues and wet wipes while she was waiting for the toilet to free up.

The cafe’s staff also asked after Priscelia and Alan, and offered a free cup of coffee as a replacement.

When the couple reached home, they both ran the scalded areas under running water for close to half an hour, but it didn’t seem like the burns were improving much.

"The pain subsided, compared to the initial shock, but you could still feel the feeling of your skin burning. And even though we were running cool water on our burns, we still felt that the water was hot,” Priscelia shared.

Eventually, Alan headed to the clinic alone ‘cos “it's the same situation for the both of us, so the one with the worse injury went down”, where he was prescribed a cream to prevent infection.

Trust Priscelia to see the funny in all of this though.

"In retrospect, it was quite an experience,” mused Priscelia. “Even though it was quite traumatic, we’re trying to make light of it. We can’t wear long pants now so my husband said, ’Oh, I’m gonna see you in more dresses these two weeks. And I was like, ‘Duh, is that a complaint?’ she laughed.
