Ong Ye Kung Says Parents Have Told Their Kids He Is Why They Have Restricted Screen Time
Do parents just taichi all the blame onto the Minister of Health?

Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung has been making waves with his weekly stint as a Love 972 DJ with The Breakfast Quartet’s Mark Lee, Marcus Chin, Dennis Chew, and Chen Biyu.
A recent video posted to Love 972’s Instagram saw the minister giving his recommendations on how much screen time kids should have.
According to him, children under 18 months old should not have any screen time at all.
For those aged 18 months to six years, the recommended maximum is one hour per day.
Meanwhile, children aged seven to 12 years old should be limited to no more than two hours of screen time daily.
Giving an example of how a household might have differing standards, he said the Ministry of Health decided to simplify things by introducing guidelines for each group.
Minister Ong also revealed that parents have been using these recommendations to their advantage and have been telling their kids that he is responsible for their restricted screen time.
“This uncle is the one who doesn’t allow you to use your phone. Go and ask him why”, recalled Minister Ong.
Taichi, much?
In fact, Minister Ong said some kids have even pointed their fingers at him and exclaimed, “My mother said you are the one!”
Co-host Marcus Chin also joked that Mr Ong would have to be extra cautious when he is next out in public.
“Later 1,000 kids will come chasing after you,” said Marcus.
Mark added, “All the kids will stare at you fiercely and go, “Uncle, are you the one who asked my parents to stop letting me use the handphone?”
With Minister Ong’s final appearance this Friday (Apr 18), we are wondering what The Breakfast Quartet have in store for him.
