Ng Chee Meng Is S’pore’s Most-Googled Local Personality of 2025, Ian Fang is 2nd
Six of the top 10 names ran in the General Election 2025.
Many of us are winding down 2025, and Google just dropped its list of the year’s most-searched local personalities for this year.
So which local personality piqued the interest of Singaporeans the most?
At the top spot, it is not a celebrity, but National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretary-General and Member of Parliament Ng Chee Meng.
Coming in second is disgraced actor Ian Fang, who was sentenced to 40 months’ jail for sexual offences involving a minor.
For context, Chee Meng is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency.
During the General Election 2025, searches for his name spiked when an old allegation from a former teacher describing an unpleasant experience with him at a 2017 Ministry of Education (MOE) dialogue session resurfaced online.
Chee Meng, who was then Education Minister (Schools), was accused of being aggressive and patronising, a claim he later addressed with an apology, saying he "could have handled the situation better".
Interestingly, six of the top 10 were tied to the General Election 2025.
Here are the top 10:
- Ng Chee Meng
- Ian Fang
- Alexis Dang
- Chee Soon Juan
- Gan Kim Yong
- Harpeet Singh
- Gigene Wong
- Su Haijin
- Eleanor Lee
- Worms (Gurmit Singh’s daughter)
Google also revealed what else dominated search behaviour this year. In trending news, “mortgage quote” topped the list
The iPhone 17 came in second, while SG60 vouchers and CDC Voucher 2025 searches landed third and fourth.
On the entertainment front, Mediacorp’s blockbuster drama Emerald Hill was one of the most searched shows, earning its place alongside global favourites such as Netflix’s Bon Appetit, Your Majesty and Squid Game.
