British Tourist Surprised By How Much Cheaper McDonald’s Is In S'pore Compared To UK
He also enthusiastically listed every Singapore McDonald’s item that cannot be found on the UK menu.
Is McDonald’s in Singapore superior to that in the UK? Well, one thing's for sure, it's definitely cheaper.
This was pointed out by British tourist Sam Meany, who recently visited our little red dot.
In his Instagram video, Sam pointed out the stark differences between the Singapore and UK McDonald's menus while he was at the Boat Quay branch.
He compared McDonald’s prices between Singapore and the UK, and was shocked by the differences.
According to Sam, a medium Big Mac meal in the UK reportedly costs £7.70 ($13.70). Meanwhile, in Singapore, it is about S$10.05.
“Is Singapore really expensive? In McDonald’s it turns out the UK [costs] more than Singapore,” he said.
Besides the price differences, he also pointed out the differences in the menu.
“Sweet BBQ McSpicy… Egg and cheese…” he muttered in disbelief, before noticing criss-cut fries in the list. “We only get normal fries,” he lamented.
As he continued scrolling, Sam looked increasingly wistful by what the UK McDonald's menu apparently lacks, including the spicy tomato beef burger and the buttermilk crispy chicken burger. He was even impressed by the fried chicken here, saying it was better than its competitors'.
If the mains impressed him, the desserts were entirely on another level.
While browsing Singapore’s dessert menu, Sam excitedly pointed out items such as the Mango NataDecoco Pie and the Ice White Chocolate Macademia Latte.
“They got some banging desserts. We get shockers at home; we literally get a couple of McFlurries,” he said. "Why does every other McDonald’s in the world get better desserts than us?”
While Sam admitted the McDonald’s in the UK is tasty, he says it feels different overseas.
“When you actually see the world, and what McDonald’s has got to offer outside the UK… different league, different league,” he said.
Singaporeans were quick to celebrate in the comments section.
“So true! I’ve not had better McDonald’s elsewhere, but I thought I was biased,” one wrote.
On the price difference, some wondered if the burgers in Singapore are cheaper because of the size
A couple of netizens who claimed to be based in the UK begged to differ.
“As a Singaporean studying in the UK, I can tell you absolutely not, the burgers in the UK are somehow smaller than Singapore’s, and worse,” he said.
Another wrote: “I can vouch that McDonald’s in Singapore is definitely cheaper and tastes better than here [London]! Why?”
Looks like there's more than we can flex about in Singapore besides chilli crab and chicken rice?
