Local Comedian Mayiduo Says A Veteran Actor Refused To Shake His Hand: "There's A Difference Between Artistes & Influencers"

Though influencers are now viewed as celebrities of the same ilk as actors, there are still some people who believe that actors are of a higher, well, status, than influencers.

At least that's what Singaporean comedian Mayiduo thinks.

In a recent interview with Malaysian podcast channel dissy.official, the 31-year-old spoke about two encounters he had with a local veteran artiste.

"In Singapore, there's a difference between artistes and influencers. Artistes are of a certain status. It's like the actors are [up here] while influencers are [down here]," he said while gesturing with his hands. 

He said he got to meet an actor when he was involved in a Mediacorp project. Though Mayiduo said he was not afraid of naming the star, and he did so in the video, the name was eventually bleeped out. However, netizens noted that the name was made up of two words.  

Mayiduo then recalled how he was at the opening of another actor's restaurant and the veteran star was there.

"Out of courtesy, I said 'Hello' and extended my hand [for a handshake]," said Mayiduo.

To his surprise, the veteran star glanced at his hand, smiled and then walked away. 

Mayiduo said he didn't want to believe the veteran was being mean. "Maybe he just didn't know who I was, or maybe he's a clean freak [and didn't want to touch my hand]."

He would later run into the guy again at Mediacorp. 

"To be polite, I still said hi to him and told him 'I am Mayiduo' [while extending my hand again]," he said.

He got the same response, confirming what he suspected: the veteran actor just didn't want to shake his hand.

Netizens have since taken to the comments to guess who the veteran actor is, with names like Wang Lei and Guo Liang getting thrown into the mix.
