Man Leaves $60K Audemars Piguet Watch Unattended At Marina Bay To See if Anyone Would Take It

How theftproof is Singapore? Local watch dealer TimeTells sought to answer to that question in a recent video.
The clip sees a man, presumably one of TimeTells' bosses, leaving an Audemars Piguet watch unattended on a stone seat at the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade. "Let's see how long it takes for someone to steal a $60,000 watch in Singapore," read the caption.
30 minutes later, the watch remains in its original spot, completely untouched. Judging by the sped-up video, hardly anyone spared the luxury timepiece a second glance as well.
At the end of the 'experiment', a line read: "This is Singapore lah!"
The video succeeded in getting eyeballs, with many netizens providing their two cents on the situation.
One suggested the man place the watch at "Ang Mo Kio block 107" instead, while another said he should leave it at Yishun since the Waterfront Promenade is mostly frequented by "rich tourists".
Other neighbourhoods that got a shoutout include Tuas, Geylang, and Hougang.
Remember this netizen who assumed Singaporeans are "too rich" because of an unattended, unstolen bicycle he saw at the Waterfront Promenade? Perhaps that really isn't the best place to measure the rate of theft in Singapore.
A number also pointed out that most people would have spotted the camera in front of the watch, and frankly, you would have to be quite foolish to steal the watch while knowing they would be caught in 4K.
"You remove the camera and see," quipped one netizen.
One commenter also opined: "Not true lah. If you lose a handphone, it usually doesn't get returned!"
Wonder what would actually happen to that AP if there weren't any cameras or CCTVs rolling in the area? Is Singapore really as 'safe' as we think?
