This Local Singer Really Hopes To Write Singapore’s National Day Song One Day

Think of National Day, and chances are one of the first things that comes to mind is the iconic NDP theme songs.

From 'Home' to 'Stand Up For Singapore' and to 'We Will Get There', they've become just as much a part of the celebrations as the fireworks and parade.

Enter local singer-songwriter Shazza, who hopes to one day add her own song to that iconic list.

The 24-year-old recently shared a video on Instagram performing an acoustic version of a song she wrote for National Day, revealing that her biggest dream is to one day write Singapore's official NDP theme song.

She wrote: "I think it's common knowledge by this point that it is one of my biggest dreams to write the official National Day song for Singapore one day. Haven't gotten the gig yet, but I'm holding out hope. Till then, I'm trying to find ways to earn it and prove myself, so to speak."

For SG60, Shazza penned 'Way Back Home' as her own take on what an NDP theme song could sound like if she were given the opportunity.

With National Day just around the corner, she decided to revisit the song with a stripped-back acoustic performance, cheekily calling it her "official audition" for the job.

Featuring heartfelt lyrics and Shazza's signature soothing vocals, the performance quickly struck a chord with viewers.

Support poured in almost immediately, with many saying they hoped to see her dream become a reality.

Fellow singer-songwriter Dainasaurs, actress Nurul Aini and 987 DJ Natasha Faisal were among those praising the song.

One netizen even commented that it deserved a music video.

Shazza revealed that it already has one, having released it on YouTube last year. She also shared a snippet of the song's second verse, which once again drew praise for its heartfelt lyrics and love for Singapore.
