How Are The Modern Day Characters Of Tasha Low, Felicia Chin In Emerald Hill & The Little Nonya Related?

While viewers are all down with Emerald Hill fever, we have one nagging question at the back of our heads.

How are the modern-day characters from the OG drama The Little Nyonya and its spin-off Emerald Hill related?

In The Little Nyonya, a modern-day character named Anqi played by Felicia Chin is introduced in the first episode. (No better time to rewatch on The Little Nonya on mewatch since some of us were probably too young to catch it when it aired.)

In Emerald Hill there's also a modern-day character in the first ep: Zhen En played by Tasha Low (who also plays Xinniang in the show).

With all the characters related to one another, tracing the family tree and making the family connection can still be quite confuse gila.

No worries, we break it down for you.

Who is Anqi (Felicia Chin) in The Little Nonya?

In the 2008 drama, Anqi is the granddaughter of an elderly Yamamoto Yueniang (played by Xiang Yun). The young Yueniang was of course played by Jeanette Aw. 

It was revealed that Huang Yuzhu (Joanne Peh) was the original birth mother of Huang Zuye. Yes, the same Zuye played by Zhang Zetong in Emerald Hill.

Yuzhu was raped by the psychotic Robert Zhang (Zen Chong) and she later gave birth to their child Zuye. 

FYI: the aged Zuye was also played by Zen in The Little Nyonya. 

Yuzhu went crazy and she tried to strangle baby Zuye. The boy was then adopted by Yueniang.

This is where it kind of gets confusing.

How is Zhen En (modern-day Tasha Low) related to Anqi?

In Emerald Hill, Zhen En is the daughter of Xinniang and Zuye’s oldest son, making her also a great-granddaughter of Yueniang and Yuzhu.

According to Emerald Hill’s executive producer, Loh Woon Woon, Anqi (modern day Felicia Chin, remember?) is one of Xinniang’s two other children…

Making Anqi the aunt of Zhen En.

Okay, now that’s settled, season three is where these two meet?
