Local Actress Ling Ying Says Her Pals Teared Up With Pride When She Was Recognised By A Fan In Public Recently
Now that's what we call friendship goals. The 31-year-old Sunny Side Up star tells 8days.sg that her girl squad was so excited they offered to take photos for her and the fan, and even thanked him for his support.
It’s always heartwarming to know that those close to you are taking pride in your achievements.
That’s what happened to local actress, Ling Ying, 31, who recently ran into a viewer who recognised her in public. Ling Ying is best known for playing Chen Xiuhuan and Wang Yuqing’s daughter Geraldine in Mediacorp longform drama Sunny Side Up.
Ling Ying recently posted a TikTok that showed four of her friends shedding tears of joy after she was recognised by a fan of her show. She wrote: “POV: When you’re still a growing actor and got recognised on the streets for your show, your girls started welling up because they were so proud of you.”
How sweet is that?
Speaking to 8days.sg, Ling Ying recalls: “That day, my friends and I were walking around and there was this man who was kinda following us closely. At first, we noticed it and were all on guard. After a while, he went back and forth around me and asked me softly if I’m an actor in Sunny Side Up. That’s when we realised he’s a fan who was actually trying to confirm my identity.”
Ling Ying says this wasn’t the only time she was recognised in public, but it was the first time her friends witnessed it so they were, according to Ling Ying, "extremely excited".
“They literally went from protective mode to ‘manager’ mode, even offering to help take photos [for us] and thanking the fan for his support. I think what made them even more excited was that the fan is from California, but yet watches my show,” she adds.
Ling Ying totally wasn’t expecting her girls to tear up from the encounter and calls it a “very surreal and precious moment”.
“When I’m out, there are some viewers who would actually come to me and tell me they enjoy my shows like KIN or Sunny Side Up, and it’s really such an honour to hear that. It really means a lot to us actors when we’re remembered for our roles. It motivates me to work harder, especially after a long day of work,” says Ling Ying.
Speaking of the support she has also received from her friends, the actress says: “I’ve known these girls for a decade as we used to work together. Back then, they knew I was trying to make a name as an actor. I was working in retail full-time and using my days off for acting jobs. They were always there for me to celebrate the small wins in my journey.”
Talk about friendship goals, right?
