Celeb Pals Surprise Li Nanxing With Unbeatables-Themed Bash For His 58th Birthday

Li Nanxing turns 58 today (Nov 7), and over the weekend, he celebrated his birthday with a party to remember.

Around 50 of Nanxing’s friends gathered to throw him a surprise Unbeatables-themed shindig at a Japanese restaurant on Saturday (Nov 5). The 1993 gambling series is one of Singapore's most beloved dramas, and Nanxing’s gambling king is his most iconic role to date.

The birthday celebration was planned by Nanxing’s manager who told local daily Lianhe Zaobao that the unsuspecting actor thought that he was joining Vivian Lai for a meeting at the restaurant.

He even told his manager to “wrap it up quickly” so that he could go help out at his family’s dessert shop.

So imagine Nanxing’s surprise when he was greeted by the gambling-themed party as well as his pals at the restaurant. 

The private space was decked out with huge poker cards with the title of the hit drama series, poker chips and a “gambling table”.

There was even a customised casino-themed cake complete with mahjong tiles, poker chips, cards with a royal flush hand and a cake topper modelled after Nanxing’s character in the drama.

Of course, you can’t have an Unbeatables-themed bash without playing some nostalgic scenes from the drama, as well as snippets from Nanxing's 38-year showbiz journey.

Celeb pals who were present include Fann Wong, Christopher Lee, Huang Biren, Hong Huifang, Zheng Geping, Rayson Tan, Chen Xiuhuan, Cavin Soh, Brandon Wong, Vincent Ng, Pan Lingling and Huang Shinan, as well as Nanxing’s fellow LNX Global artistes like Shane Pow, Constance Song and Julie Tan.

Overseas stars like former Mediacorp artiste Chunyu Shanshan as well as Taiwanese celebs Chen Meifeng and Alex Ko also sent their birthday wishes via video.

Nanxing later shared pics from the bash on his Instagram as well as thanked everyone for their well wishes, writing: “Thanks everyone for the surprise and for celebrating my birthday, as well as well wishes from friends who are overseas. I have received all your blessings.”
